thought I'd start a thread where we can discuss 2016's major weather events as they occur ....

8-14-16 .... unbelievable flooding in the Baton Rouge area .... http://timesleader.com/news/575618/3-killed-thousands-rescued-in-southeast-louisiana-floods .... the news coverage is telling a horrifying story of what the folks down there are going through ..... over 2' of rain and it isn't even from a tropical storm or hurricane .... the really terrible thing is as bad as it is down there today, more heavy rain is said to be on the way .... they are calling for possible flash flooding in Shreveport

I do volunteer precip reporting for CoCoRaHS, and have been wstching that unbelievable rain ball that is just rotating and going nowhere. Yesterday, one CoCoRaHS observer in East Feliciana Parish reported 17.65" of rain for the previous 24 hours. Unreal...

Shreveport has 141' elevation, Baton Rouge 56', and New Orleans, well let's not go there.

New Orleans isn't the only area having to deal with flooding ..... on Friday, Aug 13 we arrived in our camper in Fenton, MO .... it is a community that has been swallowed up by St Louis .... it rained most all of yesterday, not a hard rain but a steady one .... St Louis Flooding ===> http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Heavy-rains-cause-flooding-in-eastern-Missouri-9142931.php <=== .... about 5AM this morning we were awakened by someone banging on the door .... we were told water was coming up .... we quickly dressed, my wife went to work inside, I went outside ..... I stepped into ankle deep water that had some current to it .... needless to say, under such conditions, everything seems to be harder and take longer .... unhooked the sewer hose and just threw it onto the back of the truck .... the water was way up on the electrical connection, thankfully I was able to kill the power and unplug .... the water connection is under ground so I wasn't able disconnect at the faucet, consequently, we lost our first length of water hose .... somewhere along the way my rain hat fell off, will probably end up in New Orleans someday .... by 5:20AM when I walked up to the driver's side door, the water was up to my knees and the current was stronger ..... have to admit I was delighted at the way the truck hauled our camper out of there .... once we got to higher ground I pulled over and went through the process of hooking up the electrical connection and locking all doors .... we are now in Clarksville, TN and thunderstorms are in the forecast .... thankfully, nothing on that scale

Whoa Jim that sounds like it was close man.
Did the trailer get any water in it? Your tow rig could probably run under water if it had to, as long as you had a snorkel and a taller exhaust pipe.
Glad you and the wife are ok.
Hear any more on the area you were in? Is it like completely underwater now?
How many others in the campground? I hope they were able to get out too.

yep, it was closer than we would have liked .... thankfully we got the camper out before water got inside .... here is a link to the CG's website .... we were on site 222 .... when we left the water was up to site 205 .... the folks on both sides of us are living in their campers while they are working on the area .... neither have tow rigs, they pay someone to move them when needed .... one get in his car and left .... the other was trying to get his ready to hookup .... I offered to drop ours up on the hill and come back to try and get his .... he declined .... probably a good thing for us, with the way the water was coming up, I just don't know if I could have gotten our truck to his camper .... my wife plans to call there tomorrow and see what details are available
