New York City is spending the week showing off its tech side through Internet Week New York. NY1's Adam Balkin filed the following report.

It’s not often that you'll hear New York City boast of being second at anything, but when it comes to technology, even the Big Apple thinks it's a great accomplishment to come anywhere near Silicon Valley in terms of size and scope.

"We're very proud to say that New York City is the second-largest tech center in the USA and growing, and we are intent on amplifying that growth," says Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Each year, Internet Week New York is designed to help with the mission to expand the tech sector here and remind startups that with all the finance, advertising, publishing, fashion and just general creativity, this is a great place to grow a tech company.

“There are over 250 events happening throughout the city," says Allison Arden of Internet Week NY. "There are panels, performances, parties. We have the Webby Awards, the Webutant Ball."

Startups trying to gain some traction here range from new social networks to delivery services, fashion, popcorn, to a car call the Elio, which, when it launches next year, will cost less than $7,000 and get phenomenal gas mileage.

"We're three wheels, as you can see. We're made in America. We're 84 miles per gallon on the highway, $6,800" says Jerome Vassallo of Elio Motors. "So we're not a hybrid. We're 100 percent gasoline. Our top end is over 100 mph and 0 to 60 time is under 10 seconds. So we're faster than a hybrid but, say, slower than a Mustang."

Though it was created in Arizona, developers say what drew them to Internet Week was the large tech community filled with commuters looking to cram into tiny Big Apple parking spaces.

Thanks for the post Z, I was wondering what's happening at that event.
I had been wondering also and just kept looking every day. It finally showed up last night. It was probably up sooner than that but I was out of town on Wednesday so didn't think to look when I got home at 10:30 that night. LOL :-) Z
