does anyone have any experience with using BG Automotive Products, more specifically their Engine Oil Kit .... the owner of a local independent service garage recommends them highly .... has used it in his personal vehicles for years and says he has seen how well it works in motors he has torn down .... this is not a company/product I'm familiar with, comments from folks with experience using it would be appreciated

I checked into the chemical compounds there... basically, they are wax, another kind of wax (probably used here as a thickening agent for the item itself), Cyclohexanone which is a nylon precursor, and 4-Methyl-2 Pentanol which is used in the manufacture of brake fluid. This kind of tracks with the old method of putting a touch of brake fluid into your oil to break up deposits. I wouldn't leave it in there long though.

The other can of stuff is basically oil distillates which are thicker than regular oil. This goes with the old method of restoring compression by using thicker oil. At one point, my poor Mustang was running 20W50! Same result though - thicken oil up and it won't get past the rings. On the other side, thicker oil will line the cylinder wall and while it will kill fuel mileage, it may help keep gasses on the explosion side of the pistons.

I know this probably isn't what you were really asking but I'm an engineer and tend to analyze things for fun.

I'd pass on this "miracle cure". Mechanics are people and they tend to remember what supports their beliefs. It is unlikely that your independent service garage has run many tests.

2 cents. Take it or leave it. I still have to get up and go to work... for now.

What are trying to accomplish ?

I used to use oil additive in the Sunfire until I read about a manufacturing defect causing a 1qt. loss roughly every 2000 miles or so.

So I change my oil every 3000 miles :/

I've used the BG44K for fuel systems, works excellent! Not cheap, and you won't find it in an automotive store. Got all mine from Ebay. Sorry, but no experience with the BG line of oil additives...I'm taking notes from Ty on that.

excellent info .... responses appreciated .... many years ago I started adding a can of RESTORE Engine Restorer & Lubricant ® at every oil change in every vehicle .... can I prove that it works as advertised, nope .... have I ever had an engine oil related problem in a vehicle using it, nope .... have I ever had an engine oil related problem in a vehicle not using it, yep .... bottom line for me is we've had such a string of good service out of vehicles with it, I'm afraid not to use it .... my wife's Trailblazer is in the shop for transmission replacement and I told them to go on and service it while the have it .... he wanted to switch to BG but I'm not going to do so
