wouldn't ya trade an Elio for one of those great '50s American cars?? Their roads seem cluttered by them!

ZI think that if the Cuban society just used their cars, etc. for individual transportation it may well be but they have had to use their vehicles for moving as many people as possible (due to the embargo no new cars on the whole), it may take them a while to latch on to the idea of moving just themselves. If that should catch on though, I would think it could catch like wild fire! The suspension would have to be beefed up quite a bit to be able to deal with the roads, or lack of well paved ones.

Cubans don't have money for a car. From what I understand, Cuba buys from any country they want. Only the USA has an embargo against them. So it seems they just keep what they have.
Nope, not a lot of money. They live on a very fixed income but do have the free education, medical/dental care. With that being said, the income is barely subsitance level, the education/medical/dental are probably all minimal. But if they Cuba develops along the line of China (not sure how far they are willing to stretch the definition of Socialism), there could be a big change in their lives. We'll see what the future holds. Who knows, maybe Elio could become the "national car" of Cuba- inexpensive, functional, safe. Except for more room, about all you'd need!
