Elio And The Atkinson Cycle Engine?

Gizmag. If Elio used this engine in the three wheeler, would it get really good MPG? The article indicates 78 MPG.

The elio will not be Atkinson cycle b/c it has a single overhead camshaft. An Atkison engine requires that the intake valve timing be controlled separately from the crankshaft and exhaust valve timing. Most commonly this is done via a second overhead camshaft, though several innovative automakers have found alternative ways none come cheap or easy. This would add great expense to the cylinder head, sensors, and electronics required to control the engine.
