If you remember back when our latest president took over, there was the cash-for-clunkers project that gave you around 4,000 for your old car to purchase another car (new one I think).
Anyway, the point is, the government spent around 9,000 to 11,000 for each cash-for-clunker deal. If we would have had the Elio, they could have just said "For every old car turned in you'll get a new Elio". That way the price of the new vehicle is known and beurocrats aren't making money hand-over-fist for something the tax-payers are funding anyway. Even at 8,000 out the door for an Elio, we could have saved tens-of-millions.
