I think it's true, automobile racing began shortly after the development of the second car. With only safety mods allowed, otherwise stock Elios could be incorporated into a racing class much like the old Showroom Stock SCCA class that Coss mentioned. Given a track that emphasized handling over brute horsepower, it could be a fun way for clubbers to get together on weekends and enjoy a meet/tailgate/autocross.

I think it is inevitable. Human nature is what it is and racing is in our culture. It will be just a matter of time before we see Elio's in some type of racing. I personally like drag racing and back in my day I would take my 1970 Buick GSX with 455, Muncie 4 speed to the local track and run what you brung and then drive it back home! Hopped up Elio's doing front wheel burnouts would be fun to watch!
That reminds me of my first car. 1970 Buick Le Sabre with a 455 4 barrel Carb.
I could floor it and literally watch the fuel gauge move . But the fuel shortage did allow me to buy a 4 year old model while making $1.85/Hr. Not bad for a high school kid.
