My daughter asked me/texted me to help her with an Excel problem (Chemistry) I used to know this but not any more.

How do I solve the equation in excel if I know y and not x?
y=-0.126ln(x)+0.8535

I assume she is asking x= ???.

I believe this would be the equation rearranged to solve for x if you know y.

x= e^((y-.8535)/.126)) e=2.7183
or x = antilog((y-.8535)/.126)

She says:
I'll try it in the morning when I have the numbers with me.

Xtspode, I hope you were being serious. :)

I was being serious. I am a little rusty, but I am pretty sure I have this right.

Waiver. These are forward looking statements based on independent analysis.

xtspode is correct, but there's no need to approximate the value of e. You can use the EXP function in Excel:

EXP((y-.8535)/-.126)), with y being the cell you're referencing for the input.

And don't forget the negative sign for -0.126.

Thanks for pointing out the - sign that I missed hiding by the =.

Let us all know how she does. It is great to see our kids doing good. It doesn't get much better than that. Is she going to get an Elio reservation for her Graduation Present?
