Detroit is the Place to be!

It’s cool to go to Detroit. That is right, Detroit is cool!

At least that’s what the New York Times thinks. And, we agree.

The Times recently named Detroit as #9 on a list of 52 places to visit (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/travel/places-to-visit.html?_r=1 ). Well, the team at Elio Motors must be trendsetters, because we will be in Detroit next week.

The who’s who of the global auto industry will descend on the Motor City for the 2017 North American International Auto Show, and once again, Elio Motors will be right in the middle. On the heels of our successful news conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November (https://www.eliomotors.com/la-auto-show-2016-elio-motors-tour/), we are looking forward to introducing the E1c engineering vehicle to hundreds of thousands of auto fans at Cobo Center during the show’s public days.

We’re confident they’ll like what they see. Detroit is a tough town that appreciates a fighting spirit. The city’s tough times are well documented, but it is enjoying a re-birth thanks to the grit and determination of its people. Elio Motors knows a lot of these folks well. Many of our world-class suppliers are in metro-Detroit and they’ve been instrumental in the progress we’ve made and are a key element of our hope for the future.

Determination. Grit. Hope. They are not just buzzwords. They are part of our very DNA here at Elio Motors – and part of what makes us such a great fit for Detroit and the auto show. Starting a vehicle company from scratch? It’s a battle that most people would shrink away from. But, much like the scrappy folks that are charting a bright future for the Motor City, we keep fighting each and every day.

That fight has helped us raise more than $100 million in our history. It’s helped us develop a low-cost, highly fuel-efficient vehicle with uncompromised safety that will be built in the USA. That fight will help us make history.

We aren’t quite at our final destination yet, but the fight burns deep in our belly. We continue to pursue funding strategies that will get us to production and we expect 2017 to be another year of exciting progress.

So, if you like cool places, comeback stories and fighters, take the New York Times advice. Come to Detroit. Come to the auto show. We’ll be there and look forward to seeing you!

I sometimes worry that the Elio is seen by other auto makers as a threat. its different appearance, great gas milage and what they might conceive as a ridiculously low price in the world of 30-200,000 thousand dollar cars, might be seen as intimidation by some in the searioulsly profit driven world of big time auto sales. Dot know.!? What do you think?

EM is not even a blip on the Big Three's radar, EM is not a threat to them in any way. The Big three see EM as just a hobby car, and they won't do anything to undercut the big companies. Why don't the big three build a car like the Elio? It doesn't fir their business model, there's just not enough margin to be as profitable as any of their other products. They sell cars at the $K20 to $30,000 because they've discovered the market will bear it. The buyers don't look at $20K to $30K that look at "what's my monthly payment going to be?"
So I disagree, EM is no threat to them at all.

Seems Detroit really isn't all that cool this year.
" The word from many of them is that they’re saving new launches for the glitzier New York, Geneva, and Los Angeles shows later in the year. The industry has also shifted announcements about electric engineering and tech wizardry to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas."

Still no up date from EM.
Been checking the web for anything. Can't even find an honorable mention yet.

Maybe ELIO is trying the fashionably late idea this time ?
1. Fashionably Late- deliberately arriving after an event has started, especially in order to prove one's social status.
