Saw this article today, and found it kind of hard to believe that Ford is putting line-locks on their 4 cyl. mustangs?

State-of-the-art electronic line-lock will be available on 2.3-liter EcoBoost-equipped Mustang models; it was previously available only on the V8 Mustang GT.

Smoky EcoBoost Mustang burnouts just got a lot easier
Electronic brake line-lock will be offered on four-cylinder Mustangs starting in 2018

The 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost will get a line-lock function like its GT big brother. The feature is offered with both the new 10-speed automatic and the six-speed manual transmission.

For the uninitiated, line-lock is a feature used by drag racers ahead of the starting line to heat up the tires for improved traction when the start light goes green. It keeps pressure on the front brakes while easing off on the rears, keeping the car in place while the back tires roast.

“Burnouts just never get old, no matter how old you are and how many times you’ve done them,” said Vaughn Gittin Jr., Formula Drift champion. “Who would have thought that we would see an EcoBoost Mustang producing 15 seconds of fury like this?”

All the driver has to do is use the steering wheel controls, toggle through the menus and activate line-lock, which builds pressure on the front brakes, press a button to hold that pressure and then hit the gas.

“We introduced line-lock on EcoBoost Mustangs because we didn’t want those customers to miss out,” said Mark Schaller, Ford Mustang marketing manager. “The number of people choosing EcoBoost power continues to grow globally, and with the increased torque and new features coming on the new Mustang, customers will not be disappointed.”

The 2018 Mustang goes on sale this fall.
