OK, the title of being the worst state for drivers in this article (where the rest of the list can be found) caught me by surprise ....

Bankrate found that drivers in Louisiana commute nearly 30 minutes each way (pikers); spend $1,279 on insurance and nearly that much on gas; and drop $426 on car repairs per year. As for car theft, 198 cars are stolen for every 100,000 people. And there are 1.5 fatal car crashes per 100,000 miles driven.
It’s the insurance cost that probably sunk Louisiana: at $1,279 per year based on a five-year average, it’s the highest in the nation. The fatal car crash figure is also relatively high."
