Elgin was founded on the idea of mass producing high quality pocket watches using machine made, interchangeable parts. Up until around 1850, watches were made mostly by hand, which meant that if a part broke, you had to find someone with the tools and skill to make a new part.

Elgin realized that there was a large market for good watches that could be sold and repaired relatively cheaply using factory made replacement parts that didn't require hand adjusting.

Elgin was one of the first American watch companies to start selling wrist watches, and they made more wrist watches than any other American watch company. Over a 30 year period, their Lord Elgin and Lady Elgin line of wrist watches became world famous for their high quality and high fashion. Elgin was the only American watch company to make automatic wind watches and the first to produce a railroad grade wrist watch.

Elgin never made the very highest quality watches in the world, nor did they make the very cheapest, but together with Waltham (aka The American Watch Company), they dominated the vast middle ground of the watch market.
Found this on elginwatches.org. Notice the parts I highlighted. Seems the themes embodied in the Elio are hardwired into the Elio family bloodline.

Looked like my families first TV, used to "settle-in" about 6, when the three stations would go on air!!, then, the Star Spangled Banner when they shut it down (11P.M.?)
I remember when I was in high school channel 11, our first independent station, came on the air.
At 10 pm it was "Champaign Theater". It was a movie and billed as "The only entertainment at 10". The 3 network channels all had news at 10.
The movie ended at mid-night with the National Anthem and station sign-off.

I wonder if there are any channels left that still do that?
Seems like when a station hit the end of it's normal broadcast time, it becomes the all Infomercial channel.
(WORX has this really cool garden cart that does 11 different things; hmm I guess it's educational TV too. :becky: )

The dash is a moot point at EM, you are getting the Elgin dash, period, end of discussion.
The Elgin dash is a tribute from Paul to his dad; his dad wore an Elgin watch when Paul was growing up, and it reminds him of happy times in his life.

That's why there are no options for the dash; it's Paul's car, his design, his company. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
The only problem with this succinct analysis is that Paul did in fact say in his New York press conference that dash related options were a possibility. This was in the context of the need to get accessories for options right, because Elio would be responsible for removing options that didn't work properly or that didn't work out for the buyer comma and dash related options were an example of one you didn't want to remove casually. That is paraphrased, but it's fairly accurate I think.

That's a one time mention; but perhaps the wall has a small opening in it.
I say let's see if we hear it mentioned again in the next public statement.
That would be a big event if there is; and if there is, I'm sure Paul is gritting his teeth when he says it.
Maybe this new help they hired found a weak spot.
