Use that engine to power a generator and put in Li-Ion sled under the floorboard with a brushless DC motor and ............... The technology for a very compact brushless DC is here and 50hp could be carried by you or me. I had a 5hp the size of a coke can that would go 0-5000 rpm in 5ms and reverse to 5000rpm in 10ms, ok a little over kill but technology is here.

I almost expect someone to swap out Elio engine same day they take delivery to install one of these higher hp 3 cylinder engines.
