from 1979-1981, the High Milage Vehicle Co. in MN made the FREEWAY.
This is an example of an American-made Microcar. It can reach speeds of 65mph. This is what a 100 mpg vehicle looked like in 1980.

app 750 were produced !

Looking at specs and pictures, it's a last-ditch, desperation vehicle. Not something I'd want to drive unless it was the only way I could get to work. Fortunately the Elio is the opposite. Even if it got poor mileage it would still be fun to drive and look good.

Really? Tecumseh made good little engines back in the 70's and early 80's, I thought. I had a 3.5 HP on a go-kart that spent much of it's time at way over the rated maximum RPM. It ate spark plugs and chains but never died.

their motors were OK but their carburetors were a nightmare to work on ....

hey! I've seen one of those on the road, it was without the shell and had a top rollbar added & orange go-kart flags. I didn't realize until that video that it wasn't just a go-kart

Perhaps a little safer and dryer than the average motorcycle. Styling and performance a bit iffy to be accepted by many drivers.
