Laws Of Massachusetts

Hello,
New here to the forum. Recently went all in on an Elio and excited to have a place in line. Has anyone here looked into the laws in Mass to find out what applies to Elio? I assume it's registered and insured as a motorcycle? do Helmet laws apply?

ElioRoy, welcome to the forum and the Elio family. The forum has the latest information on all things Elio and I'm certain there are comments about the Mass Laws. Since I live in New Mexico I haven't paid attention to what's going on in Mass. Just do a search and it should lead you to the answer. If not, ask because there are plenty of friendly helpful fans who will try to answer your question. Welcome and we look forward to your comments, opinions, and questions. Let's make this an enjoyable experience for everyone while we take wait to take delivery of our Elio's.

Thanks Hog for providing the info. This is why this forum is so much fun. People willing to help others learn about the Elio shortens the learning curve and inspires others to join us in the Elio revolution.

Hi and welcome from Oregon, ElioRoy. According to my notes, Mass does not require a helmet but I do not have information about Motorcycle Endorsement. Some of the laws are so confusing it is hard to figure out where to find the information even if you have access to all kinds of search engines. As you probably know, Elio Motors has a team of people working on these issues full time so hopefully all states will allow driving without either impediment at the time of production. In the mean time, enjoy the journey. There are a lot of interesting and knowledgeable people on this forum and you will find great ideas to think about and/or ignore. Next year in our Elios! :-) Z

As far as I know we need to have a motorcycle endorsement but don't need a helmet. We shall see.

I talked to an Elio employee when they came to Ct a few weeks ago. His suggestion was to take the "motorcycle" test in your Elio! Try getting that vehicle through those cones. He also expected the remaining states to be on board to have the Elio classified as a car.

Please don't confuse being able to drive with your normal drivers license with the vehicle being considered a car. In MA we can ride a 50cc bike as long as it has an automatic with a normal drivers license. That don't make it a car. What the law sees as the skill set to safely operate the vehicle is what it is all about.
