Three Wheel Vehicle Problems In Texas

If you combine the lobbying power of Polaris with Elio then then I am sure it will be worked out fairly quickly. Especially if some of the big oil execs are Elio or Sligshot reservation holders. Better send them a box of Long Horn "T" bones to sweeten the pot!

If I lived in Texas, I would be incredibly frustrated. "...it falls through the cracks"??? Is that classic government or what? They are basically saying the Slingshot is something that they don't know what it is, so we can't allow it. Not surprising, but so frustrating.

Yes, isn't that an interesting tidbit at the end of the article. First, we don't know if PE really said that, but we can hope that he did. When he says "many" of the 36k reservations, I would think it would be what, 3%? And as you said Nstg8r, maybe PE or Joel Sheltrown knows something that we don't.

Never did like articles that quote "DMV spokesperson", or "Texas Officials". If you can't give me the person's name that made the statement, I can't give that particular reporter much credence in his/her article....Well, that's what 'they' say, you know.

Joel Sheltrown: The Elio is will be registered in TX as a motorcycle. I confirmed that quite a while back. Also confirmed in TX: no helmet or MC license required. Just a regular TX drivers license.

Very nice. Would be appropriate to change the title of this thread to "The Truth About Cars Article. Problems in Texas?? No"

Thanks much Jim for that other thread link! Sounds like it's not a 3-wheeler problem in TX, it's a Polaris Slingshot problem in TX. Multiple folks here on this forum have info that says the Elio will be fine in TX.

Absolutely correct jim. The problem with the Slingshot is automotive seating without automotive enclosed cabin. Completely different animal from the Elio. Texas reg 521.001 (a) (6-a) plainly explains the exception to the motorcycle rules if a 3 wheeler has automotive seating, seat belts, automobile controls and an enclosed cabin. Come on people let's not go looking for trouble where there is none.

I suspect the AAMVA reccomendations will come into play in the final decision. Here's a link.

interesting info, thanks for the link to the video .... here is a link to the AAMVA recommendations ===> file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/3%20Wheel%20Vehicles%20BestPractices%20(1).pdf <=== bottom line, they recommend an Elio should be classified as an Autocycle .... the following quote was taken from the link :

"Driving Privilege for the Operation of
Autocycles
■ Allow operation with a standard automobile
license.
■ Prohibit skills testing in autocycles"
