Relations between Cuba and the United States are warming up dramatically. Cuba is seen as a great potential trading partner for the US. They currently have many old cars (that many of us would salivate after) that need replacement with economical alternatives.

I think the Elio is just what that country needs. The people probably want anything American and there would probably be few problems. I suspect the Elio would be welcome with open arms.

Cuba may be a great outlet for selling some of those 250,000 vehicles per year. The Elio payment plan may work well there and be what the people need. Elio Motors should seriously investigate selling their vehicles in Cuba and start investigating now.

What do you think.

Yes. That is exactly correct. Cuba does not have a lot of money and the Elio would be more likely to be affordable to them. Elio Motors could be selling vehicles before the other car companies because Elios would be affordable to the people while the other car companies are still not affordable.

There is a contrast to this. The Nano was expected to be very popular in India because of its price but was not popular. It was concluded by the company's president the people felt embarrassed to own the world's cheapest car. The Cubans may be like the American were several decades earlier. They may want to own a large car as a sign of prestige.

They may also be more interested in owning a primary car, not an "and" car. It may be the important family single car as it was in the US years ago.

I would love to bring home one of those old Chevys! I Have seen several photos of restored cars in Cuba and OMG looks like Jay Lenos garage. Even some of the ones not restored are still looking good! Must be when you know your next new car is never coming, you take really good care of the one you have.
