The future is already here with the PAL-V.

Great video. I watched this several times. The machine is very sleek and its flight is far more graceful than anything in real life. Batteries with the power capacity to providing the power to support the weight of a vehicle in flight for 500 miles? How many ground vehicle hybrids even have the range of 500 miles. An appropriate size motor to turn an appropriate size generator to charge appropriate size batteries to provide the appropriate power to fly a vehicle for 500 miles, that motor would have to be a giant V8.

If he goes for crowdfunding, he had better hope his investors can not do math.

It will take some good hp. But the Batteries are only for the VTOL motors. Which are only used a short time. I was wondering about the reason to not use the motors also for forward thrust, and that's because the engine is already needed for recharge, so it may as well do forward thrusting too. The purpose specifically being to limit battery weight for long distance flight. But the engine only needs to be big enough for cruising and not for climb rate.
The real key to this vehicle is having enough battery peak output for lift-off. And enough for climbing to altitude. That will definitely be challenging.

The vehicle will not be good for anything else but short and medium commutes, no mountain ranges and no long haul vacations.

It will become the & commuter of a new autochopper classification.
Which means that they would have to have the infrastructure for aircraft control in place.
I see that as their biggest hurdle.
You don't want to have those flying like people drive, they would be falling out of the sky.

That's a funny thought! They did mention autopilot in the concept video. The future roads will be filled with autonomous cars and the sky with autonomous Jetson-like aircraft.

Yeah, so it's going to be a while before we see it become a reality; they get on the autopilot controls probably right after they finish fixing the roads and bridges and the water and sewer lines and gas lines and ... and... and ... and
