Just some basic identification. With prototypes like this everything is very custom looking in which they will document for standard production molds. ALTHOUGH the production model will be identical, it will certainly look different on the inside as far as mounts, welds, and bends go... etc. Think of it looking "more refined". I doubt that perforated metal is going to make it to production.

What you're calling a "shift fork", I know as a "clutch fork". Potato potautoe I know. LOL

The Metal screening (perforated metal) is so the body panels can be attached with silicone (or simular based) adhesive. This allows the sealer to not only be on the face of the mount, but pushing through to keep a better grasp on, the two mounting faces. Not to forget, tons of room to manipulate and square the panels to the frame, as well as each other!
The screens may or may not be included in the final product. It is actually a very sound base to mount the panels, as well as absorbing sounds and vibrations. IMO.

I'm "peeing my pants" excited to see forward movement on the P5!!

They did discuss an all-electric AC unit, and for reasons I'm not clear about they decided to go with belt-driven ... but who know for sure except Paul Elio?

I liked the idea of an electric AC compressor. There is no rotating shaft to seal around and refrigerant to leak out.

I bet Paul Elio's relationship with elioowners.com is a love/hate relationship. We are among the most ardent of supporters, but we are also among the most nit picking and demanding supporters (me being one of the worst). The more information they give us, the more questions we have.

Sorry Paul. You have to take the bad along with the good. It is a package deal.

Is the all-electric AC unit more expensive? Heavier?
I don't know that they care about mpg with the AC on, but converting gas power to electricity, then back to push a motor driving the compressor is only about 7% efficient compared to directly driving at 25-35% or more from the engine. It maybe also the standard automotive AC compressor is a bit cheaper too, at least by the time of the final price quote. Just a guess on my part.

Yeah.

Remember what your bull-headed response to the public's outcry about the Elgin got you?

I thought there was talk of an all electric A/C unit at one time. If so, that might be why we can't fully identify it yet.

you are correct, there was considerable talk about it .... as I remember, someone raised the question with the tour folks and were told that the AC compressor would be belt driven

Electric compressors are more expensive. EM is already trying to squeeze their targeted $6800. Also electric compressors require a beefy alternator, which, the one in the pic is a 100 amp at best. That may run an electric compressor, but the load on it would severely deteriorate it's lifetime.
