Just Got A Phone Call From Elio.

This morning I received a call from "Bert" at Elio Motors. Unfortunately I was out so my wife took down his name (first name only given) and number. When I returned I called back but all I got was a machine which did not identify who I was calling. I thought this was strange and would have expected the outgoing message to say "Elio Motors" or "Bert" or something similar. I left a message that he could call be back but have heard nothing.

My user name here may be "Trusting" but in reality I'm a suspecious SOB. Anyone else get one of these calls? Anyone know what's going on? Legit or some kind of scam?

Yeah I'd stay suspicious, Trusting. (unintended pun!) Can't think of why anyone from Elio Motors would call us at this point.

Ok, I figured it out. He finally called back and turns out he was trying to sell me Elio stock. The thing is he was representing himself as an employee of Elio, (constantly kept dropping Paul Elio's name like they were big buddies) which I doubt is the case. I recognize a New York accent when I hear one so I cheked his area code and, sure enough, New York. So, I figure what we have here is a broker trying to gain our confidence (and money) by claiming to be with Elio Motors. No thanks.

Not only will he sell me stock but at a discount and a guarantee that if the company fails I'll get my money back. Why do I have visions of the scene in "The Sopranos" of the boiler room with all those so-called brokers peddling worthless stocks to gullible rubes?

THAT IS A SCAM! Report his name and number to Elio. The offering appears to be going live. Do not give any financial information out over the phone. The official stock is risky enough, without giving your money and personal information straight to a con artist.
