Mpg And Range, Just A Thought

If I am not mistaken I believe the Elio has an 8 gallon tank which at 84 MPG would give it a range of 672 miles which is impressive and most people won't do that in one sitting. That being said and looking for even more bragging rights, what if Elio increased the gas tank size to 12 gallons, then the range would be 1008 miles and I believe there are no other cars out there that can do that. Can you imagine driving for 1000 miles without having to stop to fill up! I would have to stop to empty my tank before filling the Elio's tank.

Just a thought

I think the extra weight of the extra fuel would offset the MPGs. With a 12 gallon tank, I don't see you making 1008 miles.

I used to drive a Golf TDI. The most I ever got was 902 miles on a tank, but the late '90s Passat TDI had a bigger tank, and there were people who got over 1,200 miles per tank with those.

regardless of the miles per tank that it gets, an Elio will be able to go many, many times longer between stops than I am ..

That depends on how you drive it. Weight really isn't much of a factor when cruising at a constant speed. It would take a bit more gas than normal to accelerate, but if you just get up to optimal speed once, then cruise steadily, that should have a negligible effect on the total mileage.

Weight doesn't influence cruising MPGs as much as people think. I had a conversation with someone who swore that you lose 1 MPG for every additional 100 pounds. I asked him why my Sprinter van got 24 MPG empty and 21 MPG with a 6,000 pound load. His math would have me getting -36 MPG.

Well I mean like a factory option to take a larger tank with no back seat sorta like a cargo Elio model. Many cars gas tank are serviceable under the back seat.

Maybe a LD option, Long Distance package for those that do want to set some kind of record, or will be going places where fuel is few and far between gas stations. Only three fill ups to get from the west coast to the east coast.

I've done that with the G1 INSIGHT. Starting with a full tank. (2500+ miles on 39.5 gallons.) 10.6 gallon tank.
Spent more time on "Pit Stops" than getting gas.

Hopefully I'll be able to drive the ELIO to the INSIGHT GATHERING 2017.

A run across Australia would put it to the test. The Outback along with those crazy truck trains would make an interesting trip. Thankfully A/C is standard!

Speaking of Australia and milage, they run a milage "race" with solar powered cars that seem to (fill in a BIG number) miles on only a six pack of - Murray's Wild Thing Imperial Stout!

672 miles is about 9-10 hours.
A tad much for me. It had better be a comfy seat.
Isn't the 84 mpg claim doing 55 mph on a flat surface and on highway with no traffic or stop and go? City is like 49 mpg claim with all the lights and traffic, etc. So, at 75 mph, range may be a little less than that 672 miles, ey? If draft behind big rig or something, maybe more than 84 mpg at 75 mph?... I'm sure as soon as we begin taking delivery, the real world mpg stats will begin bubbling in and we'll know what everyone gets, ey?... Looking forward!
