I asked Elio about the receiver hitch very early on and they said on 3 different occasions the frame would be engineered to ready mount an aftermarket hitch so I have to believe it's so. Light hauling on a small receiver hitch cargo platform would be ideal for those quick trips to the big box stores or for that camping adventure or that bike rack.

Current plan, straight from Paul, is no receiver. The Electronic Stability Control would need to be reprogrammed, creating a six-month delay...

Elio Motors has ALWAYS said that THEY would NOT, provide a Trailer Hit<h, but leave it to the After Market. Guess we wait and see.

.... Certainly a simple carrier that mounts in a receiver is the way to go if they give us one. You'll have to keep it light though every pound you mount on that rack will be taking down-force off the front axle.
With 70% of the 1200# on the front axle, you would need a pretty heavy bicycle on a rear rack to make a difference.

Not really. I put a hitch mount platform on a small car all the time. With as little as a loaded cooler the difference can be felt. That instance it's RWD. On the Elio the feeling will be more pronounced.

As I said many times people often use the Goldwing to tow. It has half the weight and twice the HP. Yet Honda does not recommend they be used for towing. I'm not sure what Honda does with the Goldwing but installing a receiver on some bikes voids the warranty. We could end up with the same situation here and we won't know until EM actually provides us with some information.

Everything comes straight from Paul. it would be nice if EM would start behaving like a real company an get control of the second hand rumor network.

They could start by using their blog for something besides taking up bandwidth.

I understand where you are coming from as there is a lot of second and third hand 'information'/rumors out there which have no way of being verified.

I know Michael L. Hoenig is new here so has not yet developed a reputation on this forum. I do know who he his and can verify that what he has posted is in fact correct and did come straight from Paul himself. Michael and a few other enthusiasts were lucky enough to be able to participate recently in a web conference with Paul Elio and he has a lot of good information from that experience as well as some follow up conversation he has had with Elio Motors.

If this is the case it's HUGE news as better than 50% of the people on this forum have been counting on one based upon what EM published.

If this is the case the their reputation could be riding on whether the get their heads out of a dark orifice and start communicating with the public or continue to feed the rumor mill by putting out extremely important info to a select few.

I understand this is a big development as I know EM has directly said they were working on supporting a hitch in the past. I myself would like to be able to tow a small lightweight trailer but I still think a hitch will be available via the aftermarket even if it is not officially supported just like motorcycle hitches are available even though most motorcycle manufacturers do not recommend towing.

The web conference was not really intended provide the us with more information but mostly to get feedback from community members to try and help Elio Motors improve their product and communication going forward. A lot of this information will be made public over time anyway its just a lucky few got a preview.
