The P5 exhaust has the wrap you mention.View attachment 8699

Interesting! I didn't know that. I'm still on the fence about that stuff. I've never installed it, or had it installed on any of my vehicles, but "they say" your exhaust will rust out faster since the wrap absorbs moisture after the pipe cools down. I've never seen anything that proves it one way or another.

I can assure you that exhaust wraps have been tried many times on aircraft and the entire system deteriorates at least 5 times faster than unwrapped systems.
I will NEVER sign off an inspection on an aircraft that has the exhaust wrapped.

I hope the final design is much smaller than what they originally installed on the P5. That bulge may have been a quick fix thrown together to get it ready for the LA auto show, and not at all representative of the final design. Several other things on the P5 looked like they were last minute rush jobs.

I also like symmetry. I would like both sides to be the same.

Only 5 times faster? Then it shouldn't be an issue at all where I live. The SMC panels will have disintegrated from UV exposure and dry rot long before the exhaust rusts through.

I was being VERY conservative when I said 5X. Typically, a wrapped aircraft exhaust lasts only a few years. An unwrapped system will often last the life of the aircraft. My personal airplane has been flying since 1993 and the exhaust system looks much like it did when I put it on.

When can I expect my Elio car? I have been waiting over a year. We going to be able to turn our orders in for them. Is there anything else I need to do to speed this up. I will do anything I need to do so that I may speed things up

Well, in a couple weeks we should start seeing pictures of the 25 "engineering" vehicles being built. Once those are finished, they will do crash tests with them, then finalize the plans and funding for production! Elio is confident they can begin production in the fourth quarter of this year :)

Unfortunately, the Pope himself couldn't speed things up [Bill Gates, maybe], so "patients" is the word of the year. Welcome to the forum and enjoy browsing the many topics. Might just find the answer you're looking for.

Just a note from the Grammar Nazi ... "patience" is "the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset."

"Patients" refers to all the people in the local hospital requiring sedation because they couldn't develop patience.

May I suggest developing the habit of prayer?

A while back on this thread I posted an image of a modification to the tail end to allow for a visible "ELIO" name plate. I got to thinking (always a dangerous thing) and it dawned on me.... What kind of Elio? Auto makers don't just produce Fords or Mazdas. They produce Ford Mustangs and Mazda B2500s. The new Elios needs a designation to distinguish them from all the future Elios to follow.

So, two questions need to be answered. What do we call it and how do we mark it? I don't know if I like the name and design shown below but I hope it will get some of you thinking. Let's see if we can come up with a winner of a name. And please, try to resist the joke names, Elio Weeneo is not funny!
