I've been driving the Elio in my head for the last few weeks TWA, and driving centered are issues to 'get used to'. But I was wondering how to handle issues like the "Drive Thru". Cue ominous music

Bank ATM, Fast Food, Toll Booths, etc... The obvious answer is to get out, but was wondering if the group mind here had come up with anything.

I don't see any way around getting out. I believe it's just part of the choice.

The easiest fix is the Sonic system of using runners rather than the drive through. It work for all vehicle types, including the Elio.
Right, so for the ATM's a girl skates up to your window and you give her your money and account information. And then as you sit and wait for a receipt
the real bank person shows up. :frusty:

For drive-through food, the server can usually reach far enough that you can meet them in the middle.

ATM's will likely not be usable. Though I have seen some retractable service "pods" for semi tractors at truck stops.

I always wondered why they had both the carhops and drive through. Then found out when they built a Sonic in our neighborhood that the carhops get paid less that minimum wage at some locations (like ours) since they are supposed to be tipped? I had no idea and had never tipped them. Since we do not eat in our cars anyway, I just use the drive through now.

But in the Elio, I might just have to keep tip money on hand. Their credit card readers do not allow credit card tipping.

They used to bring the food out on a tray that hooked to your car window. Whey you were done you would flash your lights to have them take it away.

I always keep a stash of the $1 coins just for tipping. The girls at Sonic have always commented on them more than if you gave them a bill.

Sterling, there's another thread (or two) that discusses this at length. Use the search field in the upper right to try locating it.

By memory, to bottom-line what I remember: getting out will be the fix-all. Might be able to swing in from the right in certain drive-thru areas, so that the front left and rear wheel are nearly in a straight line. Certainly won't have to worry about scraping the side-view mirror! ;)
