Received this letter at the email published published in Tech Talk #62, but rarely used elsewhere. It sounds super friendly, but the SIL is impossible (at least right now) -- could it be a customer number, or is it fake? And the question posed is answered lots of places, and the math is 4th grade level to do. (Maybe 8th grade these days, but the point remains....)

Should I respond? Has anyone else gotten this letter? It was sent from an earthlink.net address.

Hello Eric,
I am John, (I'm All-in #78341) and I was wondering what the gas tank capacity is? At 84 MPG how far will that take me on a full tank?
I can't wait to get my Elio, and look forward to every post. When I read that cruise control was going to be a standard issue I was so happy. Cruise control was going to be the only option that I was going to ask for on my Elio. I have had so many friends that when I start talking about the Elio, they will get on there smart phone and look it up and instantly become interested. I will bet (once they are in production) that being a salesperson is going to be fun.

Looking Forward,

John

Don't respond to it; do make note of the senders full address; then delete it.

The reason it sounds funny is because it's someone doing their best translation from their language to English; or letting the computer do it for them.
If I knew what email client you were using, I could tell you how to find the header contents (forwarding it takes all of that information away).

When in doubt, delete; if it was really important, they'll send it again.

the bad SIL number could be a simple misunderstanding. When you place your reservation, you get a transaction number. Some wacky 10-digit number or something. Interpreted incorrectly, this could be assumed to your SIL.

Having said that, it does sound pretty weird. Could be some spear fishing going on here. If you wanted to reply to it, to be polite in case it is genuine, you could just send them a link to the FAQ.
