I think what he meant by that is that there's a two step process. First you must make a non-refundable reservation, then you have an existing reservation in the system for the binding commitment form to recognize and lock-in at the $7000 price.

Anyway, I know it doesn't only apply to non-refundable reservations made before the announcement since I put my $100 all-in reservation down after that and successfully signed the form. (How could I turn down a $325 discount for putting in $100 and committing to buy something I know I want?)

I had never seen that before, and from what it looks like I should receive 65% having gone all in on 6/9/14.

I'm glad people like you are here to spell this stuff out, honestly I can only imaging the chaos to come when it finally comes to paying for this thing.

If a person makes a non-refundable reservation today, 2016 Aug 15, can they get the elio (base model) for $7,000? I do not see that number offered on the website.



Today I got the following reply:

Neil, you are correct. Only a previous reservation can lock in at $7,000 but a new reservation can lock in at $7300 until we reach 65,000 total reservations.

I asked Kevin on the phone who said a person can lock the price in today (Aug 16) for $7,300. I asked if a person can get it for $7,000 and a received a cautious yes reply that I did not have a much confidence in.

There is no reference to $7,000 where a person makes an all-in reservation (offering on the color pages), but if you look at the all-in reservation agreement in the tiny window, it says "If a binding commitment is made, the base price shall be further reduced to $7,000.”


What Don Harris says makes since. Binding commitment can be written into the current offering and agreement. I thought the $7,000 price was offered as an enticement only to the people who had already reserved and had no reason to make a further binding commitment.

The all-in reservation offering wording does not mention $7,000 but the all-in reservation agreement does.

I think EM should check these over, make changes if needed, and educate all people so what is printed and what people say is in agreement.

So I have a question. Many of us signed up and dropped our $1000 early on and got that $500 bonus towards the car. By signing this new Locked In nonsense does that negate that bonus, making us agree to simply pay the $7000 price, ignoring our bonus?

This thing is getting sketchier and sketchier to me.

I'm so sorry that's what comes to your mind! They change whatever they want anytime they want including not bringing them to market.-
I don't pretend to speak for all, however Many of us who have been following their progress no longer entertain scam/incompetence.
I hope Henry your not putting this out to pull chains? Whatever - welcome to a bunch of VERY interested in this project, and very interesting folks with a wide range of skills and knowledge- me I'm just along for the "ride"

Ah, thank you. If you happen to find that email the date wouldn't matter but the title would, I save all the mail I get from them in an Elio folder so I'll search for that specific one.

I'm worried that email might have gone to an old address - with the lock in reservation I only now realized Elio still sends some email to an old email address which I had changed with them, but apparently they have to do something on their end as well, for the reservation.

I dont check that old address at all, and I found out by trial an error I had to use the original email address when I first made my all in reservation to "lock in" the $7K price (I think a later email specified this, the email with the FAQ).

EDIT: So I checked my old (original) email, but didn't find anything along the line of what was posted. I also checked my updated email for the same, again nothing.

One thing I did notice is there are/were a lot more emails from Elio going to the old address, so there must be some other type of marketing that goes out to reservation holders. Need to have Elio update their records of my reservation with my new address.

The letter explained in detail the reason for this opportunity, which is to further indicate to the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that Elio Motors has committed purchasers — not just “non-refundable” reservation holders.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to provide valuable updates relating to where the reservation count stands as we march toward reaching 65,000 reservations, which is how long this special offer will last (currently, there are only 8,177 reservations left!).

In order to simplify the process of locking in your price, please select one (1) of the following three options based on your personal preference:

1. I am a “non-refundable” reservation holder and want to maximize my savings and lock in the $7,000 price by signing a binding commitment; what do I need to do?

Q: Does the established lock-in price change my reservation bonus?

A: No, your “non-refundable” reservation bonus remains and will be applied to the final purchase price of your Elio.

Q: As a “non-refundable” reservation holder, how long do I have to lock in the $7,300* base price? More specifically, when does the lock-in price program end?

A: The program will end when we reach 65,000 total reservations (total current reservations can be seen at: www.eliomotors.com). That means if you have a “non-refundable” reservation and make a binding commitment, you can lock in the additional incentive base price of $7,000 only up until we reach 65,000 total reservations.

If you’re already a “non-refundable” reservation holder and choose not to take advantage of the additional $300 savings before we reach the 65,000 total reservations, the base price of your Elio will be set at $7,300* without requiring further action from you.

Q: How do I know if my binding commitment to lock in the $7,000 base price (and receive an additional savings of $300) was accepted?

A: Two things happen when you complete your binding commitment: you will immediately see a confirmation pop-up (or error if something isn’t working) and you will receive an email confirming receipt of your binding commitment.

We are currently sending out confirmation emails every other day and will soon move to an automatic reply so that you will get your confirmation within minutes of your $7,000 lock-in. Please remember to check your junk mail if you do not see your confirmation email in a couple of days.

Q: My email doesn’t work/I changed my email, what do I do?

Why? EM said a while back that they would be evaluating different materials for the body, steel was one of those.
They found that by using galvanized steel, it's much lighter than the composite (when they built the P5 it was 400lbs over the target weight of 1,250)
Going to steel they've gotten the weight down to 1,228lbs; less weight, less power needed to move it.

And why am I repeating an area that has been discussed to the Nth degree here? Elio Motors has sent out a newsletter describing all of the benefits of going to steel.
So if you think it's a scam or incompetence I'm sorry for you; nothing could be further from the truth.
And it sounds like trying to convince you is a exercise in futility.

Yes I did; Jerome called me and we talked for about an hour discussing all of the misconceptions that people have brought up since the Commitment form went out; the next day the Marketing Team sent out that email covering all of the topics that have come up; it was almost the same conversation I had with Jerome the day before. That afternoon I got an email with the link to "signing" the commitment and got this after I hit "Send":

So I've completed step one; now I'm just waiting for the confirmation email.

Seems the problem came up a lot for people that started at "Want In" (which I did).
3 days after I was "Want In" I switched to "All In" and that's what confused the system.

First let me say that I stand by everything Coss said.
However, I think it's fair to let you know that someone here does feel your pain.

I think the switch is a disappointment to some of us for a number of different reasons.
But I also suspect that it was necessary to stay within real-world constraints for cost and production rates.
And then there's also those up-sides like tighter vehicle tolerances and weight savings.

As far as a scam and/or incompetence...

You can easily attribute many of the "forward thinking statements" to those if if you're inclined to.
But I suggest that it was more likely enthusiasm for, and overconfidence in, the original vehicle design...
And ditto with the marketing strategy, business plan and subsequent projected time line to production.

On occasion, EM has proven not to be the most all-knowing automotive deities perhaps we'd hoped they'd be.
But they seem to have stayed on this thing like a hungry terrier on a bone for how many years now?
They've ticked some of us off a number of times with amazing, but relatively small, stumbles and blunders...
But it seems that they're still on the path to selling me a unbelievable vehicle at an unheard of price.
