It's a Getrag and yes, IF you floor it there is a switch that downshifts 2 gears !
I believe wizard is referring to the smart's Getrag single-clutch AMT (in MY 2008-2015). Smart's system is drive-by-wire, so the AMT is controlled electromechanically with solenoids instead of mechanical linkages. The floor and paddle shifters both send shifting signals to the transmission electronically, so there's really no mechanical connection between the shifters and the transmission. And if you installed either aftermarket cruise controls, you had access to the pedal mapping curves, which allowed users to customize their pedal mapping and shift points (Area 451 even made a bat-out-of-hell shift curve for those so inclined).

I hope the Elio's AMT is also drive-by-wire so some of us can play with it in a similar way. :D

I'm pretty sure I read that the AMT that Elio plans to use will "ride" the clutch for a moment to allow you to get off the brake and on the gas.

Riding the clutch does not lead to a long life, I wonder how long the clutch will last in a hilly area.
