Here is a little jewel for those of us planning to use the Elio for something other than just getting from here to there. https://waylens.com/ "Discover the thrill of driving."

I would be careful using this as a dashcam. All that data crap overlaid on the video? That there is what they call a "liability". All it can do is hurt you. Dashcams do things like prove the other guy blew through a stop sign, ran a red light, crossed over the center line into your lane, or stepped out from between two parked minivans directly in front of you. Adding your vehicle's speed, throttle, and GPS data does NOTHING to prove your case. The location of the accident is rarely, if ever, in dispute. Instead all that data can be used to prove you were driving over the speed limit, flooring the accelerator, or driving in what could be claimed an unsafe manner. So even if the other guy was at fault, the data can be used to cast doubt upon who was really at fault.

So, yeah, it may take great videos, and be really cool and all. But just be aware that all that extra stuff it records makes it less than ideal for use as the stereotypical dashcam.

True innovation is something that most correctly defines and prioritizes a problem then solves it. It's the genius of Mr Elio. The above camera simply does not do that. Same as for all other cameras with the possible exception of recording incidents for the drivers protection such as accidents or crimes. So nothing really new here in my opinion other than perhaps quality and higher expense.
Here's an Idea;
Thanks to the quality and micro sizes available now there might be a better way to use a camera in our future. First is to better define the problem. Situational awareness all the way around the vehicle at all times is the single biggest and most advantageous deterrent to accidents that a driver can possess.
So I'm thinking of a way to get a supper duper remotely controlled all weather micro camera positioned somewhere approximately 3 ot 6 feet above the cab. Even if meant to only temporarily deploy it on a boom or something above the cab only in tight or crowded conditions then retrieve or retracte it to a more conventional place on the cab for normal use. Ok so the secrets out. I drive all my vehicles like a fighter pilot. The better I can view the entire situation at all times the better I feel. I read the life story of a WWII fighter pilot attributed with the most kills. It was not his killer instinct that most impressed me. His constant cautious awareness of the situation around him at all times is was what he attributed his success to. Oh, and he never lost a wing man either.

It is cool, but no one can take your video to use against you. ;)

I wish I had my dash cam about 10 years ago when a cop showed up at my front door telling me I was being changed with a hit and run.
This guy walked into my front fender when I was standing still, waiting to pull out of the bank parking lot.
He told the cops that he had right of way, and I didn't stop for him.
I even had witnesses that said he walked into my S10; nope, no good, his word against mine; no bruises, no injuries, no falling down, nothing.
Cost me $5,500 to have it dismissed; but if I had a video, he would have been charged.

Cool! That thing does almost exactly the same thing my phone with the Torque app does. Except, I can control the overlay and actually email video directly from my phone. Or maybe it's Blackbox that I'm thinking of which actually records constantly but only retains the previous 30 minutes... (adjustable)
