There is No truth to my statement but why couldn't they use the 800 Pep Boys stores as a ship to destination point as a temporary solution? All the PB stores in my area have Huge parking lots and how difficult is it to unload a car and part it? They already have 18 wheel deliveries daily. Seems like this or a similar down the road solution (partner) could be possible. Just talking Out of the box and I realize this would Not work for everyone.
I did not think of that. Why not, indeed.

True. That plant can put out a car every 52 seconds but Elio said they'd start with 250/day. That's 1,250 a week - It'll take them 16 weeks at that speed to get through, say, 20,000. By then, though, they should have about 40,000 reservations (100 per day is the current rate...). They may not even NEED stores for a while.

I think they would love to not need stores for as long as possible as this saves them a lot of money and gets the vehicles out there and selling themselves ahead of the major marketing campaign and stores opening.

This would be a great solution for most of their customers.

This whole process of getting a new vehicle manufacturer going sure is interesting to watch. There are so many details that Elio Motors has to work out and I am sure they are working on many of them as we speak and probably many more we have yet to even consider.

They have to have somewhere to deliver the cars though. They won't make everyone pick their cars up at the factory. I don't think they'll deliver them to our doors. I'm going to pick mine up (if I ever get my number... grrr) but some people don't have the ability to get time off or spend that kind of money on a long trip. If reservation #5 lives in Portland, there's a good chance he/she won't want to drive to Shreveport. What then? Time will tell.

Cars are shipped all over the country daily, a friend down the road got this delivered a few months back and even shipped enclosed (the shipping not the car) was cheaper than the "destination fee" on my last local dealership purchase.

I hope they treat those of us who were willing to take a chance on this deal differently from those who jump in later but time will tell. It would not shock me at all if Elio does eventually charge the destination fee even if you pick up at the plant as I know from first hand experience that GM charges you the $1K destination charge on a new Corvette even if you pick it up in Bowling Green after watching it come together.
Gm has a place or places to deliver it to..Elio does not..if you take in account that they may even have a few locations they will be far away for most..Besides that we took the chance we deserve a break..I think somewhere in Elio's promises promises section or an email I got from them it stated freight was not being charged to pick ups..if i get bored later I'll check emails..Who would you feel more comfortable giving a grand to Corvet or Elio?

The good news is that since 2010 the stock market has recovered well so the chances of finding venture capitalists willing to invest money with the strings Elio can live with are much higher today than they were then. I am hoping that with a real fully operational prototype and a bunch of reservations already in hand that Elio Motors can line up what they need to get into production and start delivering autocycles to the masses.

If the guys on Elio's board aren't connected enough to at least get the money to the table i'd be very surprised............... :)

LOL
If you give Chevrolet $1000 towards a new Corvette you won't have a dime towards the actual car. . . The mandatory destination fee alone on a 2014 Corvette is $995 and the dealer doc fee is $200. The factory and museum is less than 75 miles from my house but to pick up at the museum is just under $2k!

For $895(mandatory destination fee) from BMW you can opt for free performance center delivery(at the factory in SC) with which you get a hotel room, dinner, factory tour(most of the time), and track time in your car(subject to blackouts and holidays).

I would feel less put out if Elio said: The Factory tour "Experience" will include: A. Hotel ; B. Transport ; C. Goodies ; D. Tour ; E. Elio. All @ $750. & no shipping charge. :)

If the $6.8 K figure is too low to start up production in today's world what would you be willing to pay to have an Elio and 49/84 MPG?
I always have trouble with questions like this simply because the $6800 is one of the reasons I can even consider buying a car. I am low income, some would say poor, and can't choose to pay a higher price. As it is the destination fee, cruise control, automatic and trailer hitch are stretching my budget. This is why I really appreciate the fact that Paul Elio is doing everything in his power to stick to his 4 principles. The 84/49 mpg is another biggie for me. I have not taken a pleasure drive for several years simply because I felt I could not afford the splurge. So I will let all of you speculate to your hearts desire while I bury my head in the sand. LOL :-) Z
