I had just heard about these about a week ago. I guess this the Furby of 2016.
They're called Hatchimals and they are supposed to retail at $60.00 each.
You buy this "egg" and there is a creature inside; once it's activated you can talk to it through the shell, and if you pick it up and rock it, you see the eyes glow through the shell.
After the hatch time goes about 30 to 45 minutes, you see it start tapping on the shell from the inside. You can tap back, and they'll do more, and pretty the shell is almost open (and you can help with the shell at this point) it comes to life and you have some kind of furry little creature.
You can teach them to talk, and move about, and you have to feed then to keep them alive etc.
And they are sold out everywhere, when supplies show up, they're gone in minutes.
Where do some end up? eBay of course.
Check out this listings page Hatchimals on eBay

And of course you get one person that think's the one they have is just "special"
Check out the price on this one.

I still have an original Furby; I remember there was no where within 50 miles of Seattle that had any, same in Spokane and Portland.
I found one in Walla Walla Washington at a Walmart (there's a mouthful) so I bought two; one is still unopened in the original box, the other one was in the open air and sunshine in the parking lot.
It was really an advanced "toy" for the time it came out. And they get annoying as hell if you forget to feed them.

The toy this year for me is a Classic Nintendo Mini.

Really wanted one, until I wandered onto YouTube with number 3 son, and behold...Retropie using a raspberry pi zero and it's about 40 bucks to build with the boy and plays about 10,000 games

Wow, great deal.
I was reading the other day where they're offering pocket size PC's what run Win10 and use a pi III board with an Atom processor.
Those pi boards sure have come a long way.
