"Paris has instituted a system based on alternating odd or even license plate numbers to ban certain vehicles from city streets, effectively cutting traffic in half each day. . . More than 1,700 drivers were issued tickets for violating the ban on Tuesday, which carries a fine of 35 Euros, or about $37.42. Hybrid and battery electric vehicles, as well as those carrying three or more passengers, are exempt." Read the full story via EcoWatch:

I talked to a good friend today who's still stuck in retail. He said he's had enough.
He's in his forties and he's going to take a military retirement in the spring.
He and his family are moving. He wanted Germany, she wants France.

Nope, the city gave then 2 company cars each; one with an even plate, one with a odd.

Probably; along with their wives, kids, mistresses, and any relative that is willing to donate to their "special project" (whatever that may be, most likely their pockets).

Where? I didn't say a thing about politics; it was a list of who I thought might be getting the exempt plates because of a civil servant. Not a politician.

Sounds like a good step towards attacking a significant smog/pollution problem. This isn't a long term ban, but one just to reduce high levels when needed. And the city provides free public transportation during that time, which in Paris is huge. You can get anywhere on public transportation.

"Beginning July 1, Paris banned all cars 20 years or older. Longer-term, Paris and three other cities—Athens, Madrid and Mexico City—will ban diesel engines by 2025 as announced earlier this week. Diesels area major emitter of particulate matter pollution."

This part of the article was interesting to read, but didn't give many specifics. Complete ban on 20+ year old vehicles and diesels? There has to be some exceptions in there somewhere, as the city would never get any large deliveries from larger semi-truck vehicles for basic goods and supplies.
