Fasten Up Your Elio: Arkansas Bolt Company and Tru-Fit Products

When you’re thinking about the components that make up a vehicle, there are several that likely come to mind. The engine, body panels, and steering wheel all receive top billing, but there are literally hundreds of components that make up a vehicle that may not come instantly to mind. Even though these components are largely unheralded, they are absolutely crucial to the construction of a vehicle. Fasteners, for example, keep the vehicle together and are essential to a vehicle’s construction. As you may know, having a group of blue-chip suppliers is one of the keys to our success. Today we will take a look at two of our suppliers, Arkansas Bolt Company and Tru-Fit Products.

The Elio Motors project is driven by four “musts”: to manufacture an affordable, safe, efficient vehicle that is manufactured in the United States while targeting utilization of 90% North American content. Building an American vehicle starts with American owned and operated supplier partners, which led us to partnering with Arkansas Bolt Company (ABC). ABC was founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1962. The company was born after Mr. Hastings, their founder, was unable to find a fastener that suited his needs. Today, ABC is a national wholesale distributor of fasteners and specialty products.

ABC will serve as one of Elio Motors’ fastener solutions by having dedicated employees and inventory at our plant in Shreveport, Louisiana. ABC’s team will have a presence at each of our different manufacturing stations at the plant to ensure that we have the correct fasteners that bring the vehicle together. ABC will utilize its Warehouse Management System for a timely and seamless supply chain to our work stations. If you’ve seen any photos or video of our E-Series vehicles, you’ve already seen ABC’s handiwork: their fasteners and specialty products are integral components of the E-Series build.

Keeping with the fastener theme, another one of our suppliers, Tru-Fit Products, is also an American owned and operated company. Tru-Fit was founded in 1928 and houses a 150,000-square foot facility in Medina, Ohio. Tru-Fit is a specialty fastener manufacturer whose products are used in a wide range of industries, such as marine, agriculture, and heavy duty trucks. Their customers include several household names, such as Navistar and General Electric.

One of the many unique opportunities Tru-Fit offers is the fact that they are vertically integrated. Essentially, this means that they have the ability to take raw material, apply the necessary treatments to these materials, and complete the final product all in-house. This ability ensures the quality and consistency of their products. Tru-Fit will work in conjunction with ABC to serve Elio Motors’ fastener needs.

A vehicle is much more than just an engine or a steering wheel. It’s been said that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and this principle applies perfectly when thinking about the Elio. Arkansas Bolt Company and Tru-Fit Products are two suppliers that will help the Elio vehicle come together.

Don't get me wrong, Coss, I do appreciate you posting the Momentum newsletters, but...:faint:They're all starting to blend together. How many ways can Elio say the same thing they've been saying since day one.
I'm just the messenger in this case; they mail it to me, I post it; I'm not in control of the contents.
Take it up with EM.

Let me highlight the most important part of my response.

Is the announcement of the ePlus: My Elio, My Way even considered a big Milestone Event or has more of the limited R&D funding been spent on marketing? My idea of Milestones are production related Milestones. E Builds completed, Testing Results Documented, all ATVM Loan requirements met, Elio Specification Freeze, Progress on the !00 Fleet Vehicles, plant tooling, etc.. All the really BIG anticipated milestones have been pushed out as anticipated 2017 and/or beyond Milestone events.

I ass.u.me.d I would be driving my Elio out for Burgers a looooong time ago, not comparing it to a burger at the end of 2016. The old news on options is not all that exciting a milestone event for some. Does anyone know how much additional funding and time it will take to get multiple Elio Store locations up, staffed, and running to install those options chosen on ePlus? Now the Grand Opening of the Elio Store #1 at the Shreveport Plant location would be considered a BIG Milestone announcement!

Obviously, the EM marketing Dept. thinks the recycled marketing spin is newsworthy primarily to market the Elio newcomers that haven't experienced it multiple times.

understandably, they have to target their messages to folks who've followed them for years; as well as; to those who have just heard of EM for the first time .... the reality is, they need to communicate with them far more than they do to us .... they already have our money and our support

Milestone #4 – ePlus: My Elio. My Way.
by The Elio Team

A hamburger and a vehicle have more in common than you may think. Both start with a base and can then be endlessly customized. There is a major difference, however, in how you customize each. A burger can be easily customized a la carte, while personalizing a vehicle involves expensive option packages. If you want to add mayo, you won’t be charged for unwanted bacon. If you want a backup camera, however, you’ll likely need to pay for several other options in the form of an option package. This needs to change, which is why earlier this year, we unveiled #4 on the list of top Elio Motors milestones of 2016, our ePlus: My Elio. My Way. option program.

How does ePlus work? We will provide Elio Motors customers with a well-equipped base model while also allowing for mass personalization. It has been a long-standing tradition in the automotive industry to force customers to pay for options they don’t want and won’t use through option packages. ePlus is different in that we will not offer option packages or bundles. Elio Motors customers will be able to pick only the options they want.

Our approach to the current options system is comparable to the smartphone industry. When you purchase a smartphone, it comes with base applications pre-installed. From there, through app stores, you can customize your phone with free and premium apps to enhance your experience. The app marketplace encourages application developers to continue to create new and cutting edge tools for smart phone users. We believe that ePlus will have a similar effect on our supplier partners.

One less obvious advantage to our ePlus program is the ability for our customers to have the latest technology installed in or on their vehicles. In most cases, you would need to look to the aftermarket to retrofit your vehicle. With ePlus and Elio Motors, you will be able to bring your vehicle back to one of our retail stores after your initial purchase and install the newest options we have to offer. This way, your new addition will have an OEM fitted option at a competitive price.

At Elio Motors, our vision of altering the course goes beyond our revolutionary vehicle. We strive to make improvements in all aspects of the industry, including the way we offer options. For this reason, our unveiling of ePlus: My Elio. My Way. is our 4th biggest milestone of 2016.

Don’t forget to check back on Thursday as we continue the countdown with #3!
