I've seen several around here in southern New Mexico but don't know anyone here who owns one. We get a lot of classic, unusual, and antique vehicles driving through the area.

This might be a stretch but..... Yesterday I was running around doing some errands and I saw two different Polaris Slingshots, one red and the other black. It seems that lately I can't go anywhere without seeing one. I find it amazing that Polaris is selling so many of these. For 20K plus you get, what's to me, a toy. No roof, windows, a/c, just an oversized go-cart designed by Darth Vader. (I suspect they call it the Slingshot because instead of a drive shaft it uses a rubber band.)

The point is, 3 wheels will sell. Now, it's obvious that a Slingshot and an Elio are two different animals and the only things they have in common that I can see is 2 people and 3 wheels. If people are willing to buy one of these for 20K, then there should be no problem getting people to pay less than half that for an Elio. Is this logic too much of a stretch? I don't think so. With the Elio you get the roof, windows, a/c, etc. etc.... you don't get with the Slingshot. The Elio is a real car, not a toy.

Are any of you seeing Slingshots running around your area?

The only "proof" you have is the Polaris Slingshot because it's available for sale! It does not matter what the price is or if it's a toy or not, but buyers can actually test drive and purchase. The only way we will all know if the ELIO will be accepted is when they have a "real car" to sell. Right now, nothing is real, just a prototype.

I know darn well they will sell. I have had a down payment on one for some time now. As soon as Elio #8019 is built I will pay for it and pick it up. However because I have been denied my Elio so far I looked at a Slingshot but was not for me.
I did add a third motorcycle to the bike room . Little small compared to my other two but it is fun.

My point exactly! Something you can buy...not just in your dreams! Slingshot is for me if only I can afford it!
