The Elio website simply calls it the Elio. Seems to me that they need to identify the different versions they may come up with some kind of identifier.

For instance, would the Elio with a turbo be called ElioTC or what would the electric version be called? Perhaps ElioEV?

Should those with an all-in reservation have a special investor edition? (Elio AI?)

So my challenge to everyone is to come up some names Elio could use.

Now I kown that right now it doesn't look good for the Elio being made, but there is still hope and coming up with names shows interest.

Maybe if they manage to get a deep pockets investor the first model will be named after him.
something like
Gates Edition or Buffet mobile

Thanks for the early article. The Trikke? Silly name. In the article it was mentioned about the engine: McLaren, a company noted for racing engines, has said it could supply a three-cylinder gasoline engine, and Elio also has a list of more than two dozen reputable suppliers who are interested in the project. McLaren calculates the Elio's Trikke will get 83.8 mpg on the highway and 48.7 mpg in stop-and-go traffic.

That explains where the mileage estimate came from. Interesting that instead of going with the McLaren engine they decided to build their own. Or was it the McLaren design? Still, if it had been the McLaren engine they might have had an easier time getting financing.

Instead they went with IAV (From the Elio website):
What does IAV supply to Elio Motors?

IAV is the engine designer for Elio Motors. They will design and develop the entire powertrain for the vehicle (engine, transmission, powertrain control system? Including performance, emissions, validation and endurance testing.

Why did Elio choose IAV?

Engine and powertrain engineering is at the heart of vehicles across the globe. As one of the leading development partners to the automotive industry, IAV offers a uniquely broad spectrum of expertise supported by more than 30 years of experience. IAV continues to develop innovations in driver assistance, lightweight construction and safety. They have a wide range of competencies, taking a project from the initial idea to mass production for sub-compacts to trucks and off-highway vehicles.

So checking, McLaren isn't even listed as one of the Elio suppliers. Perhaps there is some bad blood between them now.

So if the Elio had a McLaren engine that could be hot rodded, front wheels burning rubber and all, could it be called:

THE ELIMINATOR? Perhaps the Flash? Maybe Speed3? TRISPEED?

It's interesting that those numbers from McLaren are from a calculation and Elio claims the up to 84 mpg via simulations. In 9 years, we went from McLaren, to IAV, to a sourced off the shelf motor. I wonder what the official mpg is of the latest Elio with this new motor? McLaren got the Elio from 66 mpg to 83 mpg. I found this and it lists some of the early Elio technical specs and many other points. Plus explains why the Elio is so cheap and how they found the way to do it. For example:
Takata has been trying to introduce a display incorporated into the steering wheel that is Bluetooth enabled for seven years but they have not been able to get it through the OEM. It can be installed in a Trykke for $80.00 but would cost $1,600.00 in any other vehicle.
they have applied for a $260 million ATVM loan from the Federal Government
