Thanks! 2005 with 150k miles.
It's everything I never wanted in a car: Wrong-wheel drive, Honda, hybrid, automatic, CVT, silver (ick!), drum brakes (rear), piston engine! :D
I have heard of strange reasons for buying a car but have to admit this takes the cake. I have never heard of buying exactly what you don't want. LOL :-) Z

What I want is an Elio!

What I needed was to take my 18 MPG fun car off the road and replace it with something cheap that would pay for itself in under two years. Insight at 60 MPG (actual MPG so far!) will pay for itself in under 18 months.

Despite being a bit of a clown car, the first generation Insight is an engineering marvel and extremely well-made. It was their technology demonstrator "green halo" car and they spared no expense making it right. Still the record holder for best MPG ever 15 years later at 53 MPG combined. Built it on the same assembly line as the NSX and lost their shirt on every one they sold. It's also rare at just over 14,500 sold in the USA, 17,000 globally. A strong enthusiast community with lots of modders makes it fun to own, if a little embarrassing to be seen driving.

Didn't the Honda CRX they were building a few years back get 52mpg? I seem to remember this gal I worked with had one, and she was always bragging about the great milage she got. If I remember correctly, I think she had some milage on her too, but that's a different forum.
