On Horse Power

I still remember when it was very few car that had one HP per Cubic inch. Dodge has a 273 that had 275 HP and Corvette's could do in a number if engines. the mighty Hemi 426 had 425 HP. The Elio has 55 Cubic inches and 55 HP. Compared to Motorcycle engines not as much HP but compared to cars impressive. Please build the we all will come.

I can't wait to see the torque curve as, with a stroke longer than its bore as well as two stage intake valve lift and timing, this engine is designed with low end torque in mind. This should make this vehicle plenty useful in the real world.

BMW has had several engines for years putting out around double what the elio does HP/L. . .I cant wait to see what I can get out of my Elio with some modifications.

I tend to think of torque as how much work the engine can do and HP as how fast it can do it.

My dyslexia saw your thread title and read it as: "one horsepower", and I thought to myself, "man! This site is full of extremists! One guy has to have a 400 hp V-8, and this guy insists on redesigning the Elio to work with a ONE horsepower motor. Sheesh."

Snick, my brain thought we would be talking about the difference between horses and cars. My preference is a horse but I can't get across town in 30 minutes, more like a day and a half. LOL! So I'm stuck with the car or truck!

Maybe we can eventually get something like the Corvair had back then in the 60's.

Engine displacement - 164 cubic inches

HP came in standard dual carb 80, ramp it up to 4 carbs for 140 HP, or add a turbo and a big four barrel to get 180HP
