Hey Wheaters;
I thought the Liege required the motor to be stopped and then started in reverse in order to back up? LOL

Don't know of any four stroke engines that need that. Perhaps you are thinking of some two strokes? Such as in the old Berkeley three wheeler?

Anyway, no need with two doors. Plus, I don't do drive throughs, only McDonalds near here have one and I'd rather stick pins in my own eyes....

When he opened the throttle on the Merlin the Balliol torque rolled through at least 720 degrees over the runway. He managed to recover (mainly by luck because he became totally disorientated in the dark) but it shook him up so badly he never flew as pilot again.
wow! good thing he was in the air or he would have a sharp turn instead of rolling. interesting about the mosquito not having counter rotating props, compared to almost every other twin engine fighter of it's day.

Please know that I jest. Just making sure you keep all your nuts and bolts tight. LOL I believe that reverse stunt was the 2 cycles like the Isetta. and other bubble cars as you said. Yeah I know you guys all hang out in pubs. LOL

I am new to this forum but I had to join just to ask this question. Since this car is Made in America and is primarily being driven in America , Why is not the door on the right side of the vehicle? It seems to me that it would be safer for the driver and the passenger to exit and enter on the curb side of the vehicle as opposed to stepping into traffic .
Welcome to the forum and by using the search function you can quickly go to the thread on this topic. I would ask you which side of the car do you regular enter if you are driving? If that is unsafe, have you contacted current manufacturers. Elio is designing a fuel efficient safe vehicle that changes some of the dynamics without changing basic driving habits. Glad you asked and I encourage your participation in the forum

For you non-northerners, Ski-Doo came out with the electronic reverse on 2 stroke snowmobiles years ago. It would tweak the ignition timing so the motor stalled and restarted backward. Much nicer than a yank backwards by hand, and no added weight from a gearbox.

Old Detroit Diesel 2 strokes would run backwards too, usually with bad results. It was generally caused by a rookie driver stalling on an uphill, and the motor re fired backwards when the truck rolled back. Hard to stop, as it would run on the crankcase oil...
