I was exaggerating of course, but the rust problem killed sales of the car off in UK. Time magazine has it placed at #9 in their list of the 50 worst cars of all time.

I really liked the shape of them, though....

just curious, I've never been to the UK .... in our part of central North Carolina, most folks tend to shy away from purchasing used cars that come from the coast .... with such a long saltwater coastline is rust from salt water/air a concern in the UK

I plan on changing out all the fluids to extended life synthetics including the brake fluid.

.

I have several friends who do the same and so far as I know they haven't had any problems .... I never have .... for me I tend to use whatever type of oil and fluids the manufacture recommends .... that's something I need to think about

Jim, vehicle corrosion was traditionally a big issue here, certainly so in the 1960s and 70s. Our kit car industry came into being because it enabled people to use the mechanical parts from rusted out cars, which were easily sourced at very little cost and still had life in them.

Salty air near the coastline and lots of road salt used in the winters back then shortened the life cars very quickly. Thankfully, manufacturers seem to be better able to deal with the problem these days.

The aviation industry considers all of the UK a maritime environment as far as aircraft engine care is concerned.

Still seems sketchy . When you go to Jiffy Lube or any other quick oil place, there is usually a line behind you . Even if you pull in partial nose first , you still have an issue backing out . I think I will be syphoning oil myself . Full Synthetic every 3k or 3 months .
Like in the picture, you drive in from the front and back out when you are done.:)

My used oil is recycled so I don't consider it wasted but rather reprocessed which reduces the demand on new petroleum. I am not an environmentalist and find it interesting that when we do something that supports the environmental recycling agenda it is often criticized as not enough. I guess I will continue to "waste" oil when I change my oil every 3000 miles.

So, you are saying it's OK for half the money you are spending on oil changes is going to recycling and not to your bills or fun stuff.

Just like carbon credits, I will use your money going into recycling, to off set me, spending the money I save on 7K oil changes for fun stuff. Thanks:)
