TexasElio seems to be quite knowledgeable in conventional engineering and manufacturing techniques. The problem is the Elio is not conventional. He seems very concerned about their being no preproduction prototypes, no R&D facility, no test track, and no team of R&D and preproduction engineers. Actually I would be more concerned if they WERE pissing away money on these things. Don't really need them for ONE little car/motorcycle thing assembled from proven "off the shelf" components.

Okay, if we're going to play the tough question game, here's mine.

What will be the status of Elio's government loan application now that we are facing an all Republican congress?

Please note that this is a totally non-partisan question, I'm just asking.

the money has already been budgeted and the folks processing the application haven't changed .... I don't tend to believe that there will be any difference, positive or negative

I believe before you asked most of these questions you really should have studied how vehicle development programs work as you would have the answers to most of your questions simply by gaining an understanding of these programs.

The Elio prototypes you have seen, P1-P4, are design study mules developing various aspects of the vehicle including chassis, suspension, interior design, and exterior design. This is a standard automotive industry way of developing a vehicle going hand in hand with the computerized engineering.

If you go online and read about the development process for the brand new 6th generation Mustang, which just went on sale this year, you would find a very similar process to the Elio. We all know the Mustang is a huge vehicle for Ford and Ford can invest a lot of money on these programs, but what many people don't realize is that engineering on this model began back in 2009 and various prototype mules were developed to test design concepts over the years however the final full specification prototype, on this much more complex vehicle, was not put together until only 13 months before production vehicles were rolling off the assembly line. Remember this is also a car that is not just more complex but also must meet way more government requirements and undergo much more extensive government certification than the Elio does as motorcycle.

For your remaining questions about when various steps will be completed you will have to ask EM. I do however warn you that thanks to the herd mentality of the internet, where many people are 'experts' in every type of engineering at once, EM tends not to share timeline and milestone information until after things have already been completed and verified. This is unfortunate as many of us really would like to know this information but as we have seen time and time again even on this forum even minor details, like what side the fuel filler is on, can become a major point of contention and debate on the internet.

"until after things have already been completed and verified."

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Here's today's "tough questions"!

My research indicates Elio Motors was founded in 2008...so they have been in existence for 7 years...

7 years...and not a single specification ready prototype has ever been assembled...

I'm aware that an engine has been designed...and is currently undergoing validation testing...but the lack of news from Elio regarding the status of the new engine is disconcerting...

But...there has never been an Elio vehicle prototype built with any of the advertised saftey equipment integrated...(no airbags...no ABS brakes...no traction & stability control systems...etc...etc...)

And..no prototype with a finalized saftey frame configuration ...no finalized transmission specs...no finalized suspension geometry...no finalized A/C system...again the list of unfinished development appears to be a long list...

And...as I've point out...no apparent in-house engineering capabilities...

So after 7 year...and only a couple of styling mockups built...is there any actual proof the Elio Motors has the ability to deliver on their marketing promises...

$6,800...84 MPG...and a 5 Star safety certification...are all claims the Mr Elio has publicly stated...

When will there be testable vehicles actually produced to validate all of the claimed specifications...

Mr. Elio is claiming a 4th quarter 2015 start-up for production. Any other manufacture would have had a batch of pre-production prototypes running around proving grounds for at least the last 9 months. Elio appears to have 0...

What does everyone think?

NOT TRUE …..

The complete statement I wrote is:
EM tends not to share timeline and milestone information until after things have already been completed and verified.
How is that statement not true?

One of the main reasons why many Elio followers are frustrated with the process is because EM does tend to be very careful about the information they release via official channels so this limits what they tell us.

(1) Most of us here have one thing in common....
We have faith in Paul Elio's American Dream, in pulling this into production, whether supported by facts shared with us by Elio Motors or not, the hope of this being fruitful still stays alive in most of us....
(2) Others just make things looks bad simply because they do not have the patience to wait for the finish product
(3) or could not get the answer to their questions....
(4) troll

They real question here is which category does one fit in..

Doesn't matter which party is in charge- it'll be another 2 years before anything could possibly get done!!
President veto can kill any bill and not enough votes to over ride. IMO it'll be a long time coming to get a governing federal government again.
