Sounds like there's a bargain basement deal on a castle in your neck of the...uh...world.
"Half 19th-century-country-manor and half ruined-castle-dating-to-the-1300s, Blenkinsopp Castle in Northumbria comes with turrets, stone walls, unremarkable but hardly imposing interiors, rumors of a lonely ghost and possibly a hidden treasure chest. The four-bedroom castle, which is attached to medieval ruins and a fortified watchtower, was recently listed for £325K ($492K) after it failed to sell as part of a £1.75M package comprising 70 homes in the village, a pub with a ballroom, and 22 acres of land. As the English press quickly pointed out, this is a whole castle for less than the price of a semi-detached house in London.
The property was fully restored after a major fire damaged it in 1954, but still has original details like stone ceilings and fireplaces carved with heraldic crests. The modern part of the estate has two reception rooms, one with "a magnificent oriel bay window" offering southwesterly views of the surrounding countryside."
