You guys replying to this thread are the perfect candidates to whip up some 3D printers (sort of 'robots'....kind of)!
They've got some open source units that would expose the kids to multiple skills during a build....Then make some 3D Elios!
First (no pun intended) I've heard of this club/group, but very impressive! Kudos, guys!

Just one I was thinking about:

Our allotted time for building the robot expired at midnight, last night. The machine is now bagged and tagged and has to stay in the sealed bag until our first competition in 10 days.

Talon XVI is 77.5 inches tall, 41.8 inches long, 27.8 inches wide, and weighs 119 pounds.

Sounds similar to Sylvester McFiddle of team 1371.
I hope the 41" long is not your transport length. That's a little long isn't it? We ended up with two bags as ours will need some in-the-pits assembly.
How's your autonomous working? We were able to fairly consistently get three tubs stacked and set in the scoring zone.
We sure hope we can pull it off on the field!
We struggled to get down to 119 pounds!

Maximum transport size is 28 x 42 x 78, so we're OK there. The software team will have to sort out autonomous mode on the practice robot. We lost six days to snow closures and it put us way behind. Weight was an issue for us too. Every time we optimized a pound out of the thing, someone bolted some 2 pound piece of crap on it.

Where are you competing in ten days? It doesn't look like there is anything near you in CT.
You traveling?
How many regional events do you guys do in a typical season?

We went to the district model last year, so for us this year:

Week 1: Waterbury, CT (pretty close)
Week 3: UMASS Dartmouth (not close, hotel stay)
Week 5: Hartford (close enough)

Only the first two count for points toward:
Hopefully to the New England District Championship at WPI in Worcester, MA.
Even more hopefully to the World Championship in St. Louis.

Last year's robot ran 126 matches.

We actually did a non-sanction post season event last year at WVU. It lasted 26 straight hours, no breaks. It was brutal... No idea how many total matches we ran. We normally do the DC event and one more, then hopefully St. Louis.

WVROX! We were signed up, but had to withdraw because we couldn't get a school representative to commit.
