So, read some of the options but would like to ask for or about adding a dash cam.

Would like a multi-position dash cam. By that I mean a dash cam that by default records forward or the driver can re-position it to either side, when that police officer approaches.

weren't there reports that one available component of the Skyz was a 360 degree camera

Thats one of the options of the skyz system. It one of the very few I am interested but i have a feeling it will cost way more than if I were to buy a standalone unit.

The Russians may have gotten it right. Over there, insurance - and traffic enforcement - seems to be a joke. About the only way a motorist can protect himself is with irrefutable video footage. I'm beginning to budget for one or two for my Elio, looking forward and maybe back too. Initially anyway, your biggest danger is going to be from gawkers.

Those lipstick-size dashcams are relatively cheap and don't take a lot of windshield acreage. Be sure to get one with good resolution, because there's nothing worse than trying to get important information from a bad picture. Hooked up to the ignition switch, they're recording when the engine's running. If they'll capture, say 15 or 20 minutes of video, that's plenty. If you're in a traffic accident, stop recording and eject the chip for safekeeping.

I just picked up a new GoPro Hero 3+ for $200.00; it has WiFi, and I've got a neat little tablet. These two items will be with me at all times I'm out driving my E-machine. Probably have to end up getting 2 or 3 more cameras if it goes well.

Garmin is making one that I was looking at on Amazon earlier tonight. Had GPS and an accelerometer built in; if you got tagged, it immediately bookmarked and time stamped the appropriate frames and marked them with the coordinates as well. Wish I'd have had this on my Honda wgen my wife got hit from behind in December...
