Actually I think the Star VStar 1300 gets high 70's and it's about as aerodynamic as a brick. I think most of the 250 crotch rockets get high 60's and 70's. And they're all way over $7 grand. :) However that's talking motorcycle, motorcycle.
Larger CC motorcycle are not getting near that mileage. Trust me on this most of us do not ride for mileage.
My 1690cc get about 50 running a stock tune riding like I want mileage. 47 mpg with a better tune and 42mpg with a run fast tune.

If they wait much longer, the 85 mpg will not seem so 'magical' as others are in the process of catching up. The 45 mpg city rating is already out of the competition as there are other options in that range now. Time is really not on Elios side unless they continue innovation to stay ahead of the curve. I rarely check on progress any more, having also written off any chance of seeing this in the next year or even 18 months. By the time it is available, I am sure other things will be competing for my money.

Fuel consumption record for the PEUGEOT 308 and the PureTech three-cylinder turbo petrol engine!
The PEUGEOT 308, recently voted 2014 car of the year in Europe, adds to its range with the new 130 hp PureTech turbo petrol engine. A standard production hatchback has just established a new fuelconsumption record: 2.85 litres of fuel per 100 km (99.1 mpg) and 1 810 kilometres (1 124 miles) travelled on a tank of fuel !

Is that Imperial or US gallons referenced, makes a big difference. :D Of course everything is super efficient compared to the pure driving hell of our old Polski Fiat that got maybe 20mpg when it wasn't totally over heated and crapped out on the side of the road.

Those are some really good looking numbers however to compare fairly we do have to adjust for imperial gallons to US gallons and also adjust for the difference in the EU required equipment and fuel economy testing. There are a lot of differences between the test such as the US EPA test numbers now also includes some tests with the A/C running.

2.85/l per 100 km is equal to 82.5 mpg US. The standard estimate for fuel mileage adjustment for the newest EU and US efficiency tests is 20% which brings gives us 66 MPG US. That is definitely a great number however from reading a few reviews even that number is likely high as the newest EU tests are very optimistic and real world 308 driving is seeing numbers that are about 1/3 less than posted. This would put the expected US highway mileage in the 50's.

This technology is definitely coming to the USA and some smaller cars will definitely be rated in the 60's on the EPA test in the near future. However all those vehicles will cost at least 2x what the Elio will cost and the Elio will still get 25% better fuel mileage.

I've heard July and I've heard fourth quarter next year while at the event in Atlanta. What do you all think, what will be the real Elio release date? I really don't see it happening by the end of next year, seems like there is a lot to do still.
Elio really had a chance to revolutionize the auto industry. The talk over a year ago was March 2015 we'd be buying a brand new vehicle with the same warranty that is offered from many other automakers (3/36), get 85 mpg all for under 7K. Unheard of!!! Reality check..... Elio has opened up lots of interest and got the attention of over 45k buyers who have put money down...... BUT ... by the time the Elio hits the streets (probably 2 years from now... maybe) I'm afraid another car maker will already be taking over the market that Elio has created, and possibly buy-out or suffocate Elio out of the game... simply because Elio cannot seem to get going! Again... Elio has created this market but simply cannot produce. I'm sure the automakers already have plans to give this new market what its asking for... an inexpensive gas saving vehicle. Elio... I'm worried about your future. -JJ
