Just to be clear -- our money is currently not an investment. It's a deposit on a purchase of hardware. No stock, no ownership in the company, not even a loan to the company ... it's just a non-refundable deposit on something we hope will be built. For making the deposit early, we get a discounted price.

An investment involves some level of ownership in the company. Different critter, different laws, different regulations, and different levels of sanity required.

Calling our deposits an investment -- though we may be heavily invested emotionally, and the folks on this forum certainly are -- is extremely sloppy speaking, and if Elio uses the term they could be in some legal trouble.

My statement-"Investment" in the financial world not. as much as our 1k is an "investment"- Your exactly correct that's why I put "investments" in quotes. I guess I should have explained. Sorry for any mis-understandings

The $1000 dollars about 14,000 of us hit the send key on was chips on 16 black and spin the wheel. I think most of us understand that. Nothing much happens with out risk and someone has to take the risk. 41,000 of us took some risk at one level or another. The word investment has a lot of meanings.
I invested $1000 in PE dream. Knowing what I know now I would do it again anyway. It is a worth while dream even if it is a long shot.
In 1903 Harley was a long shot so was Ford.

To hit send on 5K is no big deal. But at this point ELIO is not being forth coming enough on where they really are. I am willing to take a risk with them.
Their failure to display the engine on time, then not being really up front about what happen erodes trust. If ELIO wants others to take the risk then they need to be more up front about things. It works both ways. At this point we still have no real ideas when ELIO production will even be at a point they start getting plant lines ready.
I would be more will to hand ELIO cash if he just stood up and said we are broke no funding coming and pass the hat.

agree with bottom line, disagree with the path to get there .... because Paul did come forward and I believe them when they say they do not have sufficient funding to get into production, I wouldn't give them another penny of "All In" money .... the engine delay has been sufficiently explained, so to me it isn't an issue .... if/when they say they have sufficient funding to move to development and down the road to production, I will believe them and would consider upgrading our reservation

Ahhhh want your cake andeatit it too. Of course the risk gets lower with each milestone -when/if they get the funding, and really get started, do you think there will be a need for the 50% incentive (I don't). Buy into a fantasy, big risk, buy into a dream(Elio reservationists) -less risk, buy into a reality small risk, it's all a matter of comfort level and expectations. There are folks who buy IPO's, and penny stocks, there are others who go for FDIC- C.D's, and some, trusting no entity, keep it under their bed. Whatever the comfort level you must be able to sleep- I'm not remotely suggesting that this is a consideration for many, and if you decide, for whatever factors,- truth, belief, think Paul is a cool dude, saving the planet etc. are all valid.

(In response to another enthusiast - my use of when/if - the "if" is my recognition that this project may never produce Elios. We cover the spectrum here- Paul walks on water to Paul has horns and lives in a warmer local than Arizona. These are the "reasonable" folks
Then there are trolls who can't find themselves and spew their distain and self hatred, while adding nothing to the discussion

yep .... I could use reasons like, I'm on a fixed income but while true, that wouldn't reflect my reasoning .... I'm one who likes to minimize risk .... I'm interested in buying a vehicle -- my ooooops, in buying an autocycle .... if doing so will contribute to Paul's dream, fine but for me that's secondary .... I also agree that the level of risk a person is willing to take is an individual choice and should reflect what's right for them .... until the day the Fed Loan comes in, I think EM will gladly take ever cent they can legally muster

He is passing the hat to people that can afford to lose a minimum $15K investment. If those folks don't take the bait, I seriously doubt others will give EM a dime if they officially announce "broke no funding coming".

Yep agreed- and passing the hat ain't gonna cut it. They need hedge funds ( I think- big money ready to take big risks in the hope of making big profits?), and with the downside of loss of EM control?
Or, just a person with very deep pockets that wants in, I hope the latter.
This from someone "living on the edge" with CDs and minimal mutual funds-lol

Somebody once said, "Paul's Dream is making a boatload of money on an idea and we are contributing to it, not sharing it".

A person with deep pockets needs to be confident that Elio is going to happen. EM is not at that stage of development without a production prototype to show that investor. One running production prototype would make all the difference. Isn't there adequate funding to hand build just one prototype to show off to the investment community? The one that could be used for tooling up the plant for production and testing.

Heck, if somebody saw the new Elgin dash in the production model that may be the one feature that gets a hand in those deep pockets.
