Greetings all:
Love these scooters. Three years ago, I was at 45mph in Albuquerque - car turned right in front of me, totaled the Burgman 400 and cracked my helmet. Been using the Burgman 650. Went for a ride this morning while still cool out (of course it is 7500 ft elevation in in the valley at Questa. Like I said. Love these scooters. God Bless.

When I went to the dealer I gave him a choice which bike he wanted to sell more, the 'old new' CTX 700 DCT or the 'old new' TMAX. The price was very close for both. He picked the TMAX and I am glad he did as the under seat storage is great. The NC was in the mix until I sat on it. I have a 2012 VStrom 1000 Adventure and it is WAY more comfortable than the NC 700. I really did not like the position on the NC so it was out right away. I did like the storage but not at the cost of riding position.
Curious why you think the CTX 700 would be better for commuting?

I think I should retract my statement regarding being better for commuting. I believe I mis-remembered my reasons for my decision. As I said, I really liked the T-Max and gave it serious consideration, but the parameters for my second motorcycle were very specific, and the seat height of the T-Max ruled it out.

I previously had a Suzuki Burgman UH200, which is one of the loveliest little motorcycles I've had the pleasure of owning. It mostly fit the parameters, but literally came up short in a couple of areas. I wanted a Monday to Friday commuting appliance for myself, and a Saturday and Sunday fun machine for my girlfriend, who is not long of leg. The two problems with the Burgman were (a), the limited cockpit size was excruciatingly painful for me, and I suspect anyone over 5'9", and (b), the smaller wheels (which I loved), made my GF too nervous since the handling was so quick.

I eventually found the CTX, which fit my GF very well, and she felt very comfortable with the stable handling and DCT transmission. It took a few iterations of adjustment for me to get the ergonomics set-up: bar adjustment, Kuryakyn footboards, and a 2 inch raised Corbin seat. Now, accounting for the easily swappable seat, I have a bike that suits both of my requirements very well.

I think I would strongly recommend the T-MAX as a commuter and a weekend blaster for most people. That you were able to negotiate a similar price to the CTX DCT for the TMAX, which I found to be usually north of 10K, is very encouraging!

I also have a Tmax and love it. Mine is a 2010. Got it brand new in 2012. I believe you will enjoy yours for years to come. A few pics of mine below.
