Amazon thinks that also. They just ivesteded 700M in the company. Do you think it will beat TESLA to the market?
I don't think they'll beat Tesla to market though I think they'll sell more of them than Tesla will of their truck. Also, I'm betting Rivian won't have as well developed autonomous driving capabilities as Tesla will have. But, it's a compelling vehicle with some pretty well thought out design quirks. I, personally, like the flashlight in the door. I have one in my door that is suspect. Sometimes, it will just be dead suddenly and need new batteries. It's very handy to have when working on or in my trailer. Yes, my cell phone has a flashlight feature but THAT is quite irritating to hold and use. Well, it is when I work in the trailer.

I think the biggest challenge is going to be service after the sale. With cheap cars, we just accept that they break and work on them ourselves even if they are brand new. As for Rivian and Atlis, they are for the super rich and they don;t work on their own stuff. So, when the Rivian has a problem, does the company have the necessary things set up to service it right away. I know EV's never break when it comes to the motor but the rest if it does and no different than a regular car.

This is where Tesla struggled but figured it out. So buy a Rivian and take your chance or wait for Tesla? Then there's three choices of ICE where you can go long ways with only a few minutes to recharge them.

Good point. Tesla figured it out, as you stated. With Amazon's logistical support, I can't believe that repair of a Rivian would be stuck waiting on parts.

Amazon can figure out the arts and recently they are now selling installation. Think about it. If your Elio cranked over but wouldn't start, would you know what to do? It could be a hundred different items. Unless you know what to look for, you are running blind. This is not where you had a carb, points ignition and from there it would be easy to figure it out. Same for the brakes, stability and TC. Who here would know exactly what to look for if the lights all went off for that? It could be a number of items that wend bad. Rivan is no different. It gets easier when time goes on but in the beginning, it's a challenge. Unless you are someone that want's to spend lots of money to "plug in" and see what the code says (which deosn't mean it's exactly what the problem is) you are out of luck.

Don’t forget, the Rivian and upcoming Tesla pickup will be joined by a Ford F-150 EV in 2021.

The pickup market is huge, so expect lots of established manufactures to develop EV pickups!

I, personally, kind of like the Rivian vehicles. Different? Yes. Ugly? Hardly.View attachment 23401 View attachment 23402
Did I say ugly? I meant to say FUGLY!

I kid, I kid! I know everybody's tastes are different (that is obvious, look at us, we all want an Elio!), but for a vehicle starting @ $70k, I myself would like something different on that front end.

I hate the Tesla truck design. It puts the driver almost over the front wheels. If you consider the design of most vehicles, the driver is between the front and rear wheels. This puts the driver into a rocking chair meaning that bumps in the road pivot the vehicle under the driver making the ride smoother.

The Tesla truck concept to me looks like a european style delivery van. Here's a good example. VW sells the Crafter and the Transporter. Both come as vans, trucks and just an open frame. If you notice, the Transporter comes as a full blown van (Caravelle) and camper (California) too

I'm just wondering if Tesla is going more for flexibility and something that the Europeans would actually buy and for the US, a hit with the commercial fleet sales (it's similar to a Sprinter here). I could see how an electric delivery van/truck could do well in an urban environment (which is the main reason having the driver so far forward).
