Stu looks like he is more into providing a business with the real estate to make your business work, not throwing money at it to make it happen. As for you the person who gets the property, you need to make it work. I suspect Stu has handed a GM plant to Paul on a silver platter. If Paul can't...
I notice that there's no update to the reservations number. Maybe the marketing person could get on that since it was going up by a good amount at the end.
I'm just spitballing here. I wonder if the BoD told Paul to stop doing Skype interviews because all it does is turn into bad press. Same...
I was at the Detroit Grand Prix a few years ago and for the SCCA World Challenge race, they had a Leaf as a pace car. Between sessions, they had it plugged into one of those big commercial generators. There were some pics floating around but I remember that they ended up closing off the area for...
A group of us do cycling. One guy is 55 years old and he is the poster guy for health. He does triathlons, ironmans and lots of running. Over this past summer after a 50 mile group ride, he went home and an hour later had a massive heart attack. As we all found out, it runs in his family and he...
I've been to St. Louis a number of times and a high school friend of mine lives out in Washington, MO. He does about 90 miles each day for work. I will say, I do like Ted Drews, Imos Pizza and toasted ravioli.
Where I'm at, there's even a Pep Boys service only place that's by me. It used to be...
Paul Elio told everyone that he had extensive plans on private funding and beginning production in June 2014. We all know how well that turned out. So, I assume that that the plans for service and distribution are to be believed also? Honestly, what can you believe? Back on topic, can Elio...
"Signing up with Pep Boys for service makes up for the lack of a dealership network on the service side and replacement parts shouldn't be an issue."
That brings up a good point. What happens if you don't live close to a Pep Boys. For example, St. Louis has no Pep Boys and the closest ones are...
The car business is different because you have lots of expenses that have nothing to do with building the car. In addition to that, you need a national network to be able to sell them and the way Elio is intending to do it (not franchising dealers), that just adds into their costs. As for Tesla...
In the world of manufacturing, North American Content is considered NAFTA countries. So, you could source all of your parts in Mexico and hit 100% North American content. Many people think that North American means, American but not according to the US Government. I always though that the 90% NA...
A few other things to consider.
1. Startup costs for the first year are much higher as opposed to the running costs. So, Elio has never built a car before, thus there's no way that they will get it right for a while (existing car companies had a hard enough time with this, let alone a new one)...
Elio has been a great PR firm up until the last few months. If they were not a great PR firm, then they would have never got all of those reservations. You can get a few people behind you if you have a great idea, but to get tens of thousands to do that, it takes a good PR machine.
Paul is the front man, thus he's the one that takes the heat when things don't go right but will get all of the accolades when they do. That's just the way it is when you are the CEO. You are essentially leading the team.
My wife learned to drive a stick on the 1982 Rabbit Diesel I got her when we were dating. I gave it to her (because her Ford Escort took a dump) and in two days, she was driving around without a problem. No instruction needed. She figured it out. I still have a Jetta TDI today and it's my beater...
With all of the delays, mention of the ATVM loan and obvious funding issues, people were reading between the lines that 65K was a number that would mean some major great news was going to happen. At this point, it looks like it was a internal goal for Elio.
I got a 1980 Rabbit pickup Diesel for free in 1985. It had a broken a timing belt and that pretty much destroys the engine. I bought a complete brand new VW industrial engine from some place that advertised in Autoweek (remember when they had a huge classified ad section). It showed up for $1K...
Good letter. That's what they need to hear. Just the next Momentum with your letter and a response will go a long way for existing and future customers.
