Not overly promising news:

"The new loans, according to a report Tuesday in The Detroit News, are likely to go not to carmakers but to parts suppliers."

Technically Elio isn't going to be a CAR maker, but assuming The Detroit News knows what it's talking about, it doesn't look good. Anyone know anything about The Detroit News?

This is like a game of telephone. The Detroit News article says:
He declined to name what companies might be getting loans. But he said the program has been focusing on suppliers, and there’s been interest in making vehicles lighter in weight. “That’s one of the easiest ways to comply with CAFE standards,” he said.

ATVM program about to start handing out money again for the first time since 2011. One or two loans may be awarded this year however no mention of Elio Motors in the article.

That's really too bad. Why are they afraid to lend the money to EM? Even if EM were to eventually fold, it's not like Uncle Sam has trashed billions on hand outs to other "friends," and lost it.

Must be something that our dead head Democratic senator is dropping the ball on. Jobs for our state, both direct on the,one and indirect. Guess maybe Paul is a registered Republican?

Not a great article, but at least it's some kind of news. :-) The "good stuff" is:

"One or two new loans are expected to be announced this year, according to Peter W. Davidson, executive director of the DoE's Loan Programs Office."

And the math is...

185 million is what part of 15 billion?

Answer: Roughly 1.2 %

Come on now Bureaucrats...

I really would have thought that Alcoa should have had it's own money for R&D and tooling.
Hybrid and Electric tech still hasn't developed into long term affordable alternatives as yet.

Do something useful for your average citizens!
