The Most Beautiful Cadillac You’ll Ever See is Heading to Auction

We’re trying to type through the drool on our keyboard, because this 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe by Ghia is one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen. But it’s more than just a pretty face—it’s a culmination of Italian design and American engineering unlike anything before it.

Based on the standard Cadillac Series 62 that hit the market in 1940, it was designed by famous coach builder Ghia, to which the company only ever made two examples. Even then, the two vehicles differed in a number of design cues.

This one in particular was given a unique grille and taillights, lacked front parking lights, and featured two “bumperettes” rather than the standard full bumper. Not to mention the 212-horsepower V8 that you’ll find under the hood, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

But the story of this Cadillac is one of mystery. It was alleged to be delivered originally to John Perona, owner of Manhattan’s El Morocco. But other rumors point to it being owned/driven by actress Rita Hayworth. It then switched hands a number of times before taking up a residence with its current owner, an avid collector.

Now, in just a few days, it’s going to hit the auction block in Arizona. Slated as one of the most expensive cars in the collection, estimates have it raking in somewhere near $1,500,000-$1,800,000.
