NASCAR is usually many years behind on the car technology; they do mention that in the article, the fuel injection, the fuel blend etc. and here they come out with "new digital dashboard system that is mandatory this season – teams can switch between as many as 16 preset screens to display information with three different graphic looks".
Can't wait to see it. Changing the screens will be one of the last things they worry about while racing; so it will be a set to the one they like the most, and leave it.

I hate it for Tony :

"Stewart-Haas Racing announced Thursday that three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will miss the start of the 2016 Sprint Cup Series season after suffering severe back injuries Sunday in an all-terrain vehicle accident.
According to Stewart-Haas officials, no timetable has been set for Stewart to resume competition, but he is expected to make a full recovery and return to the driver's seat of his No. 14 Chevrolet this season. No interim driver was named."

"Among the races Stewart is expected to miss is the season-opening Daytona 500. Barring a return to premier-series competition after 2016, Stewart will likely finish his elite career 0-for-17 in The Great American Race at Daytona International Speedway, a track where he's won 19 times -- including Daytona 500 qualifying races, the Sprint Unlimited exhibition and two International Race of Champions (IROC) events."

I had no clue about many of the non-driver changes .... hate to see Furniture Row going to Yota but can understand it ... link ===>

On the move: Driver, crew chief and manufacturer changes for 2016
Furniture Row is filling the gap that Mikey created when he closed shop (actually I think Toyota pulled out on Mikey is why he closed).
A bit ironic though, Truex took the fall for the mess that MWR created, went to FR; and now FR is getting the MWR sponsorship.
Furniture Row started out Hendricks, then switched to Childress; nothing was ever said why they changed; I wonder when they're going to 2 cars?
I knew it was going to be a complete new scorecard for this year so you could tell who went where; with Tony out I wonder if Bowyer is going to move early and just do a partial with that "fill in" team.

per NASCAR.com Chase Elliot put the 24 on the pole for the 500 .... Jr starts 3rd .... Jimmy Johnson starts 6th ... my girl Danica starts 29th ..
Don't forget, only Chase and Matt Kenseth (2nd) are actually starting the 500 in those positions, the rest of the field will be set by Thursday night's Duel races.

Jim, I beleive I owe ya some cheese as the top finisher from last year's picks that we all kind of fizzled out on. PM me an address and I'll get some to ya.

I was rather surprised (as I think the drivers were) how quickly those cars would just "snap around" because of that new spoiler package they put on the cars. It was like ...... I'm getting a little loose, a little wobbly, BANG backwards into the wall.
Or into whatever was close to them.
I think the "big one" is unavoidable this year.

I admit to not paying too much attention during the off season, but as I understand it, there was little to no change to the restrictor plate cars, and the new low downforce cars are for the remainder of the tracks.

I reserve the right to be wrong. Now that the season is upon us again, I'm back to my daily dosage of Sirius NASCAR Radio, and will stay better informed.

(I do take pride in being the NASCAR nut among my friends, the guy they call in to answer questions and settle bets/arguments).
